Guy Fawkes Inn

Amazing room, comfy bed and great location. If you want an early night this might not be the place for you due to the noise from the pub itself but if you will be out late anyway it's perfect.

This hotel is in the centre of York with views of the Minster. The room was nice and quirky as really old with lots of history. The floors were slanting as they were obviously originals, which is a fun feature going up to the room. The rooms are situated above the pub downstairs which was really busy, although we couldn't hear the noise from our room. Breakfast was really nice and the dining room was full of character. I feel the room was overpriced and unfortunately don't think I would stay here again though. This could have been due to the run up to Christmas though.

We stayed in Room 2, with a four poster bed. Although the room was lovely, and the bed extremely comfortable, we barely slept due to the noise. The room was right over the bustling, busy bar, so an early night was impossible. We were woken early both days by staff vacuuming at 7am, noise from the hallway and stairs, and on the second morning by scaffolders outside. If we return we will definitely ask for a room in the back of the hotel, away from the bar.

Great stay as always. We finally got to stay in the suite at the top. Its been done up since we got to look at it a few years back. Loads of space. Large tv in the lounge area. Would be nice to have a smaller one in the bedroom as well. Bed was really comfortable. Staff were really friendly and efficient, especially the girl that checked us in. Sadly we didn't see the 2 ghost children! Great view of the minster from the bedroom. This hotel is so good, didn't have food this time, but it's really good when we've had it in the past.

Our stay was amazing the room was beautiful the food oustanding and the staff went out of there way for us for our wedding very impressed and our stay was perfect, will be staying again..

Fabulous stay at a really lovely hotel. Will definitely return and will recommend to anyone who is visiting York.

Lovely location and undeniably atmospheric, this stay was nevertheless disappointing. I desperately wanted to love it and I really truly tried to. Check in was great, initial impressions were good and the room was comfortable. However there were some serious issues. Firstly, every time the people upstairs moved, the glass chandelier rattled. And I mean rattled. I coped. The next morning I stepped into the very small shower. It was dangerous. The water was excessively hot and the temperature control was broken. I had to get dressed and go to find help. The lovely member of staff was very helpful, but admitted it was difficult and likely needed a new part. He did manage to reduce the temperature. Having eventually showered, I wanted to get ready...no mirror at all to dry my hair, put makeup on, check my appearance. The bathroom mirror was tiny and too high. At 5' 2" I could see my eyebrows! Nothing else. Attention to period detail? I think not and anyway, the Georgians had mirrors, so I cannot understand why The Guy Fawkes Inn can't provide them. They didn’t have laminate floors though and this room did. The extension cable stretched to the kettle was unsafe. I stayed in the four poster room and would have loved to draw the curtains round the bed, but they were decorative *****s. All in all extremely disappointing.

Happy with stay. Great location. Not the quietest of stays but you have to expect that above a public house. Still had a good night sleep though, and the bed was very comfortable with lovely bedding. The only thing I didn't like was the ensuite. It was very small with two steps up to it from the bedroom so it didn't feel very safe to me. Water pressure also poor in the shower. Overall i would be happy to stay again.

The Inn is so full of character and history. It is a Very old building, so expect things to be different. They have updated the bathrooms and kept the historic charm but unlevel floors and unexpected steps are to be expected. It really made us feel like we were staying in historic York! The back courtyard area was right outside our door but things quieted down at a reasonable hour.
