The Capsule hotel was located directly next to the South Gate of the Xi’An city wall. It is in a quaint little street. The location is perfect, but a bit difficult to find as there was no actual address. Once arrived, I called the service number and about 5 minutes later the attendant arrived. This is where it all went south. The pods were fine and sized appropriately. The issue is; there is not a proper door or gate to the capsules. Instead there is a thin bamboo screen that you can definitely see through. In fact, I was at direct eye height with a man in his capsule just in underwear. The lockers designated for each capsule did not contain a lock and were also filled with bedding and other items. The bathroom was, for lack of better terms, disgusting! Black mold crawled on the walls and the smell of mildew filled the air. The “sitting area” advertised on the website was simply a bench in the walkway. There were at least 15 capsules crammed into what would usually be a 1 or 2 bedroom apartment. The area was also VERY dark and not representative of the images from the website. I think if the bathroom, storage situation, lighting, and capsule doors received an extreme overhaul, it could be a nice place to stay. My friend and I decided to stay elsewhere because she did not feel safe staying in a capsule that ANYONE could look into at any time. Also, do not book this place if you do not have at least conversational mandarin level. The staff spoke NO English, but tried to be as helpful as possible.
