비치필드 하우스(Beechfield House)

When we had a a big family celebration dinner we chose Beechfield House because from previous occasions we were happy that it would all go well, and by golly it did. The hotel itself is an excellent venue and at all times the staff were always very helpful and friendly right from the original the original enquiries to the night of our “do” when the waiters were cheerful, polite and efficient. Our thanks also go to the kitchen staff because food was excellent. All in all we were delighted with everything.

We stayed here after a trip to Bath. A lovey hotel with beautifully landscaped grounds, a nice outside pool and playing area. The room was excellent as was the service, the staff and the meals. Highly recommended, we will hopefully visit again.

A wonderful Easter Sunday 4 course lunch….perfect service and faultless food. We are both very well travelled and know when great attention to detail has been applied to deliver standards as high as these… very well done, we’ll be back…it was a real pleasure to be so well looked after…

We arrived at this hotel on a miserable wet afternoon. How refreshing to encounter a hotel that was not the same old same old decor and staff that were old school and took a pride in their hotel. This hotel retains the old country house style with modern touches that create a spot on ambience. Good food and a level of service, with minimal staff, that displayed fabulous attention to detail that many modern hotels are sadly lacking. I’ve stayed in many a hotel but was quietly impressed by this one. A little gem

Very friendly welcome on arrival and we were then shown to our room which was lovely and clean and had everything we needed. We didn’t have an evening meal but breakfast was delicious. Overall, a very comfortable and peaceful stay with great staff and food.

We rolled up the drive to this lovely old period hall, in the pouring February rain, thinking “this place will be nice in the summer!”. We were checked-in by the restaurant manger who was “learning reception” - fair enough, but no welcome, long silences while staring at the screen and lots of repeated questions made it a torturous start. Our room was Snug indeed but adequate for a 2 night stay. Wifi worked well, we had big fluffy towels, a comfy bed and plenty of hot water. But no bathroom door handle, or main light in the bedroom or a window that stayed open to ventilate the room. At dinner we had to wait a while at reception to be ticked-off the list and shown to a table. There we sat for another 20mins waiting for our order to be taken. It soon became clear the Kayleigh was working the restaurant on her own, indeed working her socks off to attend to all the guests. The restaurant manager only came into the room twice, briefly, to bring a dish to a table. Other than that, Kayleigh was on her own with no help. The food was good … we ordered bread and oil to start, but they bought out toast, that was weird. My fish n chips was okay and the chocolate orange tart very tasty. Breakfast in the morning was first class. Loads of quality cold buffet items and a beautifully cooked hot breakfast, all served by Daisy who was smiley and super efficient. All in all I want to really like this hotel, as it gets a lot of things right and has some great young team members who understand good customer service. But it also has quite a few foibles to sort out to justify a 4 star rating and the tariff charged. I do hope the leadership team address these; I'd promote Daisy to Customer Relationship Manager; she get really understands how to deliver professional, personalised customer service and would quickly sort-out the hotel’s shortcomings.

We spent 5 nights at this lovely country house hotel and cannot speak highly enough of it. Warming fires in the bar and lounges made sitting in these rooms a pleasure. Our room was spacious, warm and had a four poster bed with a comfortable sofa for resting and watching TV. The grounds were beautifully tended. Evening meals were a delight and the full English breakfast the best we have ever had. We had organised a special lunch for a family get together in the Music room where Daisy had decorated the table with daffodils from the garden. Moreover we were able to have pre drinks in the sunlit Orangerie. The food was excellent and the service by Chris and his team immaculate. All our family were full of praise for how well they enjoyed the event.

What used to be an elegant, quintessentially English hotel is now more like a wine bar. The service is minimal, remote and cold. Don’t expect either a warm welcome or hospitality. Everything is run on a shoestring - of course not reflected in the prices paid by its guests.

We booked via Secret Escapes which may have been the problem but it seemed like a good deal. We arrived to share some time away with friends and after a lukewarm welcome things improved once we were in the bar and then got better in the restaurant (once a failure of the salt cellar lid had been sorted with a fresh plate). So food and wine good and we were left in the room next to the bar with after dinner drinks and coffee. Rooms were ok but our friends was noisy as it was on the side nearest to the main road (ask for one overlooking the pool) and had a whiff of bad drains. Breakfast was generous but when we asked to see our bill it arrived computer generated and incomprehensible. We asked for an explanation of the terms used and what the charges referred to but the poor girl who was left to deal with us could only agree it was confusing and blame either Secret Escapes or the hotel’s “systems”! It was finally agreed that we probably owed about £45 less than our two bills came to and our friends were assured that their card would be charged accordingly. However on checking later they had been charged in full for the extra without authorisation and we were the sent an unidentified bill on top. When queried re the additional amount we eventually received a “goodwill” reduction but the unidentified bill was never explained although we were not charged for it. The hotel management seemed either confused and/or stubbornly indifferent which is a shame as the chef and other staff deserve a better rating than we feel inclined to give. We have waited for quite a while before reviewing to calm down and see if we received better explanations but these were sadly not forthcoming!
