I arrived Friday night and, although I had prepaid by credit card, I had difficulty registering. The clerk (someone named Chris) was inefficient and rude. He claimed my card "didn't work." I told him I had used it to book (and pay for) the room earlier in the day, and for dinner an hour before. When I suggested he contact the issuer (Citibank), he clarified that the card hadn't been denied, but it "didn't work" in this hotel. Citibank Visa doesn't work for a Marriot Hotel? He said he needed to charge $50 for "incidentals," so I offered to pay cash. That didn't work, either. Ultimately, I gave him a Capital One debit card, which he accepted. I travel a lot for business. This was an odd experience.
