Wonderful place, extremely quiet and peaceful. Visited for a private event. Breakfast and dinner are first class. Everyone strives to help in any way possible. The New River that flows just in front of the property is also a beautiful thing to watch. The surrounding Blue Ridge mountains complete a perfect scenery!

Situated among the majestic Blue Ridge Mountains and along the banks of the New River in Northwestern North Carolina, the River House Inn & Restaurant offers a top-shelf dining experience as well as cozy accommodations! The guest rooms/suites occupy outbuilding cottages that exude historic charm and include all of the modern amenities and conveniences! Elegant and sophisticated, the inn also exudes a homey and down-to-earth vibe! The owners and staff are personable as well as efficient, and fellow guests become instant friends! On select Sunday afternoons, they offer live music accompanied by scrumptious hors d’œuvres, a gourmet four-course dinner, and what surely must be considered to be the finest wine selection in this part of the state! My wife and I were fortunate to be in attendance during one such performance which featured Emile Pandolfi (world-renowned pianist) and Dana Russell (highly-acclaimed singer)! Mr. Pandolfi possesses virtuosic technique as well as a very tasteful and imaginative arranging style! Ms. Russell is an incredibly versatile singer who delivers everything from operetta to classic standards! The entire experience was magnificent on so many levels! We can hardly wait for a return visit!

A return visit to one of my favorite places. Right along a fork of the new river. The hosts are wonderful and the breakfast spectacular Very quiet at night. Slept great and awakened to hot coffee delivered to my room. I didn't have an opportunity to eat my evening meal with them this time but in the past it has been delicious.

This place is a hidden gem. Finding this retreat was a huge blessing. We highly recommend this property. The quiet, the nature, the rooms, and the food were all amazing. The staff is incredibly friendly and very accommodating. We will definitely be back.

My husband and I stayed in the wee cabin. We are absolutely in love with this place. The cabin was beyond our expectations. The jacuzzi tub is amazing. The whole atmosphere is perfect for a romantic getaway. The breakfast that is included in the mornings at the main house is beyond expectations. The orange juice for the mimosa is freshly squeezed. The food is five stars. Absolutely the best. If you're looking for romantic getaway with your spouse, don't look any further. We drive all the way from Greensboro for this getaway. We will be back.

Very welcoming start to our overnight stay at the inn. Very good dinner and breakfast and great accommodations. What stands up is the conversation we had with the owner when she joined us for a little while over dinner. She is a very interesting person and made us feel like we knew her for a long time and had common interests and common appreciation for food, wine and social life.

Unique old place in beautiful mountain area. Best breakfast we have had for a long time and evening dinner menu was amazing and upscale. Staff and owner were super nice and welcoming to our family. We will definitely be coming back soon! Thank you…

We wanted to try it before bringing family of 12 for Thanksgiving dinner. Let’s just say we booked the dinner and also booked New Years weekend along with the New Year’s Eve celebration. Our cabin (Chicken House) was excellent for the two of us and better than expected. We arrived early to enjoy the bar (Jade and team were excellent), listen to outstanding young man Audan Parks perform and savor the appetizers and dinner. The service for dinner was as good as any we have had. Breakfast was for sure something you don’t want to miss. The service from the moment we arrived to when we departed was what you want from a place and they sure performed. Even making a special trip up the hill to start the fireplace for me. We came to River House to try the food as we needed a place for our family of 12 on Thanksgiving while in West Jefferson for the week. Let’s just say we booked dinner as well as two nights over New Years so we could come and enjoy the 8 course meal, entertainment and Service. We love this inn and all of its charming rooms located in outbuildings. The management team is lovely and responsive, the river access is on site and fun to paddle, and well behaved dogs are welcome. Delicious breakfast is included in the rate and dinner is top notch - reservations required.
