I did not expect much from this property and therefore was not too disappointed. It is an old (1908?) home that was converted into small apartments. I stayed in room #6 Pros: Perfect location for what I was in Vancouver to do. Very close to the subway station (Sky Train) Beautiful, quiet tree lined street Bed was comfortable for me (firm) Cotton linens seemed clean, or at least they smelt nice The few staff I saw were friendly Louis is a nice guy, he is a part time Uber driver, which came in handy for me since I do not have the Uber app There is a small fridge, coffee maker and microwave in the room, the only thing I used was the fridge so I don't know if the other two appliances work or not but the fridge kept my beer cold, that was all that mattered to me. WiFi was okay once I figured out what network was the best one. Two bars max Cons: There were a lot of bad smells throughout the property. I get that it is an old house, but I suspect the stink comes mostly from the amount of garbage/old furniture and other such discarded items at the back yard. There were two common kitchens, one was not fit to store items in the fridge, never mind prepare food in there. The house phone in the main building (#345) did not work. I was told to "try later" but it was inoperable throughout my three night stay. Not everyone has a cell phone. Well maybe you all do but I do not so it ****** I could not make a simple voice phone call. There was a drink machine that is also broken, looks like it has been out of service for months. In my room, the bathroom mirror was placed so high that I could only see from my eyebrows up (yah I'm only 157cm but really!) There was nowhere to hang a bath towel except behind the toilet, which is as far away from the shower as one can get. I did not use the shower but thought about if I did where do I put the towel? A box of tissues in the room would have been a nice touch for those of us who don't like using toilet paper on our faces. There was no screen on the single pane slider window. I wasn't worried about security as room #6 is on the second floor with steep gables all in a very sad state of disrepair. But, insects, you know! Last thing I can think of that was bad was that the walls were all very grubby. I am certainly no princess, but still, I wanted to grab some Spray Nine and wash them all down and then paint. Eeeew. With a lot of work and clean up this place could be a real gem, but definitely not worth $245 CAD per night. There are a few other BnBs on this avenue that look like they are far better cared for. Thank you
