메드플라야 호텔 페즈 에스빠다(Medplaya Hotel Pez Espada)

Per Espada is a nice hotel set on the front promenade. It has a slightly retro feel although all the fittings seem new. Ok sized room. Large breakfast buffet area which was very busy even off season. The pool was closed and the shower water pressure was very feeble. I mentioned it to the front desk but they ignored it. Seems to attract an older clientele.

This is a lovely hotel, right on the beach. The food was amazing, always something for all tastes…the hotel’s theme was amazing (Sinatra) etc was different….made it unique. There was entertainment every night which for low season was a really good touch. Drinks prices were reasonable…..overall, we loved it and simply cannot find fault.

Stayed for a weekend in January and was lucky to have stayed in a beachfront suite with balcony jacuzzi bath. The room was spotless, with an extremely comfortable bed, and had a large sofa and chair. The bathroom was well equipped with products and had a large walk in shower with a rainwater head and a standard head. I stayed bed and breakfast and the breakfast buffet was extremely well stocked with a great selection of food. The hotel has a very pleasant ambiance, and the staff in all areas were friendly and welcoming. I would recommend this hotel and would definitely stay again

The room we were given was tiny, 3 beds in in a small room. Apparently there are suites for up to 5 people, but unfortunately we did not complain so I suppose its our fault for not kicking up a fuss for a different room. There was a terrible smell coming from the bathroom every night. We did complain and some chemicals were put down the drains, it had no effect. This could have been down to the amount of rain that they had though. We took our granddaughter who isn't especially a picky eater but she hated most of the food. She lived on omelet in the morning. Every night there was fresh cooked fish and my husband asked what sort it was the chef's shrugged and said "just fish". On the last day I told my granddaughter to check everywhere and she looked under the bed, she found a slipper and some nuts 😳. Needles to say they must have been there foe at least a week 😵. I don't know how this has a 4* rating.

The staff in this hotel are all very nice especially the reception staff. In the lobby there are signed photos of films stars and celebrities that have stayed in this hotel since the 1950's as this hotel was one of the first hotels to open in Costa del Sol. The rooms are nicely decorated and there is a free electronic safe and fridge in room. There are plenty seats in the lobby and also a library reading room. There are different entertainment singers every evening on a weekly turnaround and Flamenco dancers every Sunday evening. The best act are 3 male singers called The Bohemians who are a tribute act to Il Diva and they are on every Saturday night. The 2 Saturdays we were there the guest audience gave them a standing ovation. The entertainment starts at 9.30pm tll 11.00pm but there is no entertainment activities during the day. The food is okay with usual show cooking and around 4 casserole dishes and the dessert selection of cakes etc is very good although there was no hot desserts like apple crumble etc. There are plenty of sun beds around the pool and a sheltered outdoor courtyard with table and chairs. The outdoor pool was too cold and there is no indoor pool and spa in the hotel. We had booked a classic room with jet 2 but the classic rooms are on the non sunny side of the hotel overlooking the car park and have the smallest balcony we have ever had in a hotel. If you want a room with a sunny bigger balcony you have to book a superior room overlooking the outdoor pool and facing towards the marina. The overhead shower in our room was difficult to control the temperature. It was either too hot or too cold and we had to use the small hand shower instead. It would be good if the entertainment lady had a notice board near the reception showing what acts were on each evening instead of us having to ask her what entertainment was on.

The hotel is an iconic place to stay on the Costa, hence why we wanted to stay, it is a lovely hotel, the beds were very comfortable which is one of the reasons we booked as normally beds are an issue in other hotels. Room was pleasant, balcony ,view of pool and beach, location is good too, very close to benalmadena and also a nice stroll to get you to the older town up the top of torremolinos. However, a few small bits has lead me to give 3 stars instead of more. The buffet was good,BUT....nothing was labelled as being vegetarian, apart from vegetables and the obvious salad,I mean deserts mainly, being a veggie I like to know if something has gelatin in and in this day in age you kind of expect that. God help any vegans too... basically if you are a vegan I would consider calling ahead and check to see what options are in place. Another thing I like about the place is you don't get your typical benidorm brit here, nothing against benidorm, but it is normally a different type of clientelle, however, we did have a family of two men, and their children and wives I'm guessing ,who were playing extremely loud music which we heard a whole block away, they also told a lovely little dove on their balcony who we fed to f* off. I called and complained but felt that the reception ( male) didn't take any notice, I only mentioned the music not the swearing at the dove. Their isn't anything to do really if it rains at the hotel, which it did for two whole days,no games room, no TV with films etc. 😑 good for those who don't want too many children as there is nothing for them really. The pool was not open and again disappointed that there is no indoor pool, or sauna or massage . Entertainment was good. El divo tribute was great, the staff in sinatra bar were nice. All in all 3 stars out of five I think is fair, I think if I'm being honest the hotel is still dining out on being a five star back in 1959.

What a lovely hotel, the reception area just makes you go wow with all the old black & white photos of famous people, our room was really nice we even had patio doors in the bathroom with a little balcony also our room had sea view which we didn’t even book so that was a bonus, maids were in our room every day, we only had breakfast & there was so much choice to have the only problem I’d say is there’s no tea pots so you only fill your cup which goes cold pretty quick but lovely hot food, we couldn’t have picked a better hotel for the location there’s everything you need on your doorstep and if you want to go into town the bus stop is 2 minutes away £1.50! Or if you want to go to Malaga town it’s £1.70 which I would highly recommend it’s an amazing place to visit. All the staff are friendly & are happy to answer any questions, the pool area is really nice which has the sea view, I’ll definitely be coming back here for a visit…..

We've just returned from the Pez Espada Hotel. Lovely hotel and staff. We had a pool/side sea view room. Good location on the paseo between La Caruela and Benalmadena Marina. Food was good , plenty of choice too with a grill area (meat, fish etc), fresh fried eggs and omelette for breakfast etc. Lovely salad bar, deserts/fruit section and also dishes cooked in sauces (the lamb tagine was poor mostly bone and fat so avoided that twice and others were complaining about it also !! We didn't do any of the entertainment, but the bar was fine for a nice cocktail 🤪.
