Artist Hotel

Smart, comfortable, fresh hotel. Very comfortable, quiet room with excellent bathroom, air conditioning and wifi. The included breakfast buffet was terrific, especially the scrambled egg. The hotel is only a few minutes’ walk into the city centre with its stunning, fascinating historic buildings and about 15 minutes to the railway station. There’s a good selection of places to eat within about the same distance. There’s a comfortable sitting area near the reception. Traveller’s tip: don’t miss the tour of Subotica’s great treasure, the town hall, at 1200 most days (tours in English and Serbian). The beautifully restored synagogue is another must see.

How many hotels have you ever been to that exhibit literally dozens of absorbing works of modern art? The Artist Hotel does. The Artist Hotel also is just a short walk from the great examples of pre-WWI architecture, both belle epoque and art nouveau, that Subotica—a well-kept secret—offers to the culturally curious visitor.

Simply one of the nicest boutique hotels I have ever stayed in. The exterior is a little inconspicious as it blends in with the surrouding apartment blocks. But once you enter the Artist, its just WOW. An array of stunning art pieces across the whole hotel, expertly put together. The atmosphere is calm and peaceful, a lovely lounge area to sit and have a drink. We stayed in a deluxe room, which I would describe as a suite, a huge great leather sofa, two large screen TVs, lovely bathroom etc. And more artwork! Breakfast was great, my wife ate dinner in the restaurant and was ignored by the waiter for 20 minutes (only negative point) but all other staff were professional yet friendly. Our only regret was that we only stayed for one night. This hotyel would be double the price in a western location.
