Alright hotel. Strange decorations. It used to be a Sofia classic, built by a famous Japanese architect. They still kept tye nice Japanese garden. The restaurants are nice too. Breakfast was adequate, thought not copious. Close to the metro, nice views.

Terrible service, very dirty rooms! Only the location is good!

Really disappointing air con switched off at owners request for whole hotel. Staff rude, beds really uncomfortable. Manager would not come down to reception to be spoken too. Bar staff shortage so you have to wait 45mins for a drink. The peacocks and swans were a lovely touch in the garden however the children being able to chase them and pluck the feathers I didn’t like. Would I return ‘No’. Rooms are not cleaned everyday. My duvet cover was dirty. We had to wait 9x hours for clean towels and bottles of water.

This hotel has definitely seen better days. I wish I had taken a picture, but I somehow didn't. The carpet in our room actually had, what looked like, body fluid stains on the carpet. Where do you see such things any more (at least a supposedly 5* hotels?) And the beds were "springy"--by that, I mean, you could actually feel the springs on your body! It would by funny if it weren't uncomfortable. And the service is atrocious. I failed to register the name of the lady at the front-desk, but she acted as if she was doing us a favor by deigning to talk to us. Any requests (e.g., a iron for the clothes) were met with frosty indignation (how dare we disturb here with such outrageous demands?!). And finally, the price for getting laundry was truly outrageous. My bad that I didn't pay attention to the prices, but the price for doing 1 big bag of laundry--I am not kidding--came to $120 (USD)! So, all in all, I'd give this hotel a super wide berth. BUT that said, the hotel does have some redeeming features. First off, it has one of the best gyms I have ever seen in a hotel. It's almost as if a great gym decided to build a hotel around it. (The rest of the hotel does seem like some body builders--with little idea of what goes into a 5* hotel--built it!) The hotel also has a nice Italian restaurant (I believe it's called Burrata). The food was actually quite good there. And the spa (and masseuses) were great--at least the ones we got. Still, I wouldn't ever stay at this place again. Well, may be I would if they gave me $200 each night of my stay. Plus free food.

One of the worst hotels we have ever stayed in. Location and interior and grounds superb. Loved the peacocks in the ground. BUT it is all about the look downstairs and the service is abysmal. Air con broken so rooms were baking hot. The manager gave us a portable air con device but the next day a burly maintenance man came to our room and took it out and snarled the word "reception" at us and left us with no air con again. Filthy carpets. Rooms were not cleaned. Fridge did not work properly. Hardly any staff in the bar so 30 minute wait for service. Staff were rude. There is clearly an undertone of older men paying for younger ladies services. We had a wedding in the hotel one evening and we were not served drinks because we were not in the party. Very rude. Do not waste your money staying here.

An interesting fusion of Japanese ideas for a hotel in the Balkans! Enjoyable business stay in this hotel, which is part of a large complex comprising various restaurants, a nightclub and a lovely Japanese garden. Comfortable room (not so comfortable bed) and good breakfast. All in all, a very pleasant stay.

Group check in on 15 April 2024 was a breeze. Our Rooms 719/721 well set up , has coffee making machine with coffee/tea & complimentary bottles of drinking . Full set of bathroom amenities however rooms do not have airconditioning , we had to keep window open to get some air to sleep. Room is run down, dirty with cabinet door broken too beneath the window sill. Hotel lobby has too much decorations. It has a beautiful japanese garden with some peacocks and pond with fishes & ducks. We did not get to enjoy much with all the facilities , as its only a night stay here. While room needs some improvement in upkeeping, breakfast spread is awesome , thus made up for it overall.

Seems luxury hotel but only for wannabe new-money guys and golddiggers. Rooms are average, if there is a party on the 19th floor (which is usually) forget to sleep anywhere between 19-8th floor. Staff rude, cleaning of rooms are just hanging back used towels instead replacing. Not recommended.

The room was dirty, we even found a cigarette on the floor and hair… The air condition was broken and it was working all the time so the room was very hot and we had to have the windows open all the time… the coffee machine inside the room was broken as well.. I could have saved the money that I spent to this hotel, regret visiting there…

The worst hotel I’ve ever stayed! Really dirty rooms and bathrooms! Totally doesn’t worth the money! It shouldn’t be a 5 star hotel. The location was good. The breakfast was ok. The rooms were really old. The bathroom had hair from previous guests.

Very overpraised hotel.. In the evenings it is noisy and the walls are thin and you can hear everything. The rooms are old and need updating. The carpet in the corridors is old and smells of cigarettes (smoke detectors do not work). You may come across old men with younger girls (it's clear what they came for).

We stayed in Hotel Marinela in Sofia for 2 nights in August as part of a wedding party. Located arpund 30/40 drive from the airport, it is in the highest point of Sofia and has an innovative and modern design, in sync with Japanese minimalism and attention to detail. Japanese architecture & designs such as sculptures & beautiful ethnic gardens are embedded in all areas of the hotel. Our room was spacious and had all the amenities such as coffee & tea making facilities. The towels & toiletries were changed everyday. However, it was a quick knock on the door and change the towles, handover the toiletries & water. The beds weren'tmade or the room wasn't cleaned everyday, a bit disappointing for a high end hotel. The staff were always helpful and polite. There are 6 restaurants in this hotel offering exotic and modern cuisine from different parts of the world - Japanese, Bulgarian, Mediterranean! We had brunch in Ambassador Restaurant and their vegan /gluten free food was fantastic. There were so many varieties of hot food, pastries & salads. On our last morning we had a very simple breakfast in Sakura Bar with a beautiful terrace which leads to the Japanese Garden where guests will witness peacocks roaming around. A beautifully designed garden, suitable for weddings. We got a takeaway from Burrata Italiana one day too. James Burchier metro station is just a few minutes walk for those who want to veture out.  We paid an extra €30 for late check out til 6pm as our flight was not til 11pm. All in all, a beautiful hotel, but should work on providing high end services in all areas rathar than focus on appearance and interior design only.

I was worried about staying here due to all the bad reviews but it turned out very nice. The Hotel lobby area and restaurants are really lovely, great place to relax in and entertain business clients. Yes there are issues, the rooms aren't 5 star standard and the AC is weird as hell (technician told me I had to turn temperature up to 28 degrees C for it to work??). Also bar staff are moody, no need for it and creates weird atmosphere, it really doesn't take much effort to be polite and welcoming. Apart from that I thoroughly enjoyed the grounds and restaurants and would happily stay again as it was a decent price.

Rooms are very old. Not cleaned (which is the biggest issue). Parking is paid. Breakfast ok but not meeting 5* hotel requirements. In general, hotel is far from 5* requirements. Mosquitos in March in the room, which means windows were not opened since last summer. What is good is view from the room. Restaurant in the ground level.
