Alles was top , buiten het eten kon lekkerder.

This was a one night stay as we were away for a weekend and thought the town of Sluis was worth a visit, managed to check in early, as it should have been 3pm, room was ok, although had to leave as many windows open as we could, aircon didnt seem to be working, breakfast although continental was more than we had expected, had a drink from the bar the 1st night, bar staff were friendly and service was swift, thank you guys.

Parts of the building needed work. Paper coming off walls, carpet not put down properly. Floors not level. I liked the breakfast and especially the dining room. When I checked in I was told it was all paid up except for a tourist fee. I paid that then. On checkout the woman was very nervous and appeared incompetent. . . She said it had to pay again. I told her I would not pay for the same room twice. But I will pay if it turns out that I haven't. So please let me know.

The staff tried to speak french, that's always appreciated. We got a luxury room with a balcony, just like that. We have been here serveral times, years ago. They really made an effort to upgrade and modernise this hotel. There is a good Wifi connection in the rooms, the tv is modernised and bigger. The windows have changed. I regret there is no shower, only a bath with shower, and that is sometimes difficult to get in or out without help. The big breakfast room is nice, there is never a crowd. Everything is reassorted in time. Now we will surely come back.

We come here twice a year, and have done for 10 years. Why? It has everything we require. Beds are comfy, rooms are extremely clean and the area has lots to see/visit. It is ideal for a trip to the coast, and the "Kusttram" in Belgium (from Knokke) is just 10 minutes away. A day ticket is around €7.00 and is good value. Equally, the Westerschelde ferry from Breskens to Vlissingen is worth doing, and the drive there takes about 20 minutes. 42 bus from Sluis will take you there as well, but it takes around 45/50 minutes. Sluis town centre is just 5 minutes walk and is lovely. Good shops, a fantastic bakery and lots of good restaurants - if you don't want to eat at the hotel. As others have said, De Dikke Van Dale is quite old, but that should not and does not detract from its comfort.

We booked a two night stay in June 2021. Our reservation was for the "De Luxe" room!! What a disapointment. On arival we were met by VERY helpful staff. The receptionist was extremely friendly and helpful, booking was not a problem. We went to the room on the first floor. Outside was the temperature around the 25c inside the room it was around 30c, no airco! only a little fan!? If this was the De Lux room I do n ot want to see the Standard rooms!! Breakfast was a joke, yes the buffet did look good but........... The scrambled egg and bacon was cold. After mentioning this to the staff I was greated with the reply "we cannot do anything about it". Thanks. The second day was the situation in the room and at breakfast not much better. Absolutely disapointing there are no other words.

Superbe endroit, très bien situé, à deux pas du centre. Hôtel charmant, chambre spacieuse, très bien équipée. Le petit-déjeuner était excellent. Le personnel très sympathique. Le bar est agréable pour un dernier verre. Ce fut une agréable surprise. Adresse à retenir.

Chagrijnige receptioniste met geen enkele empathie en inlevingsvermogen, personeel achter de bar die geen Nederlands spreekt en gebrekkig Engels, niet om kan gaan met kritiek want dat begreep ze dan ook niet. Lege manden bij het ontbijt die niet aangevuld worden.

Dit was de slechtste nieuwjaar ooit ! Er was niet genoeg eten, het was koud en niet restaurantwaardig, het leek wel een diner bij de scouts (alhoewel dit nog beter zou zijn!) Het plat water was voor 12u al op en de bier dat mijn man en schoonbroer dronken was na 3 rondes ook op. De muziek die er speelde was een ouder 2-koppig bandje en er was helemaal geen sfeer tussen de liedjes moest je wachten op het volgende wat al snel 5 minuten in beslag nam en om 5 voor 12 stopten ze met spelen, om 1 u was het afgelopen en we kregen zelfs geen drinken meer ! We betaalden voor een comfortkamer maar daar werkte de radiator niet en we kregen een andere kamer maar deze leek wel een bezemkast als ik uit bed kwam moest ik mij bukken om niet tegen het plafond te botsen. Echt een slechte ervaring en niet alleen wij maar iedereen klaagde en kon niet snel genoeg uitgechekt zijn, het personeel deed zijn uiterste best (behalve de kok dan) maar ze kregen alleen maar klachten en probeerden de moed erin te houden. Zelfs al zouden ze een voucher geven om dit te compenseren gaan we er nooit nog heen !
