Marianna Hotel

So we have just returned to this hotel for our second visit and it was even better this time. The room, bar and pool area have all improved and once again the service was impeccable. We will definitely go back again. Tilly, the new barmaid is really sweet and helpful and Maria and her team do a fabulous job! They also provide transport services, if required, obviously at a cost but nevertheless still very handy to have. REVIEW BELOW WAS WRITTEN IN SEPTEMBER 2019 We have just returned from this lovely little hotel. Yes - there is no denying that this is no 5 star hotel BUT we, who usually do stay at 4/5 star hotels around the world, thought that it was absolutely lovely. Rustic, traditional Greece was what we wanted and that is what we got. Breakfast was absolutely fine. We weren't expecting eggs, small sausages, baked beans etc so that was an added bonus. The pool area is immaculate and plenty of space around it. The staff at this hotel cannot do enough for you. Thank for making our stay in Santorini so enjoyable.

I have really mixed feelings of this hotel but will try to be as fair as I can. On arrival we were met by Tracey who was very friendly & welcoming. She showed us to our room. Unfortunately I was so disappointed with the room I wanted to cry. It was situated at the side of the pool bar away from the rest of the hotel. It was very, very dated. The toilet was so old and stained I imagine you’d never get it white again. The furniture and decor ancient, bathroom terrible and fridge very rusty. Tracey was lovely and arranged for us to have an alternative room straight away. We were given a very small but cleaner poolside room with a much better bathroom. This room is very small with one door in only. No light coming in which was a shame as I always look forward to having patio doors onto a terrace/ balcony when I’m away. I noticed straight away a big dirty stain on the blanket. I will add though, we booked this hotel at budget price so I suppose we got what we paid for. The terrace was tiny, just enough to fit a small table & 2 chairs. It’s very open with a low wall between each apartment so there is no privacy from your neighbours. In my opinion, this room wasn’t great for a good nights sleep. The air con is very noisy and so is the fridge which is close to your head due to the size of the room. The green emergency lights were extremely bright and lit up the whole room (see pic taken without a flash) and the top sheet doesn’t fit the bed well so it was a toss up to which one of us would end up with it! We didn’t sleep very well for the duration of our stay. The housekeeping was done daily. We had plenty of fresh towels and our bins were emptied. We didn’t have our bedsheets changes for the week we were there. Positives - The pool area is amazing! So calm and beautiful. The beds are comfy and the back drop of the mountain is just breathtaking. The hotel location is perfect for the beach, bus stop, bars & restaurants. Tilly the young lady who worked at the pool bar was brilliant. She always had a smile and was frequently checking to see if we wanted drinks. (Downside to the pool bar - it closed at 5pm and reopened at 8.30) They don’t serve food at the pool bar but Tilley is happy to phone one of the restaurants that she has menus for close by and order food in. The breakfast was plentiful hot & cold food, hot drinks, juice. We enjoyed breakfast every day and it was on till 10.30 which meant we never had to set the alarm or rush. The staff at the hotel are helpful and friendly. In particular Tracey, Yannis and Tilley. Thank you. There was a big party of young people there for the last 3 days of our stay. It looked as if they had taken the majority of the available rooms- they were a big group unfortunately this did alter the vibe of the hotel for us a bit, especially around the pool in the day as it had been so peaceful and relaxing previous to them arriving. As mentioned before about the terrace not being private, this became even more apparent

Nice clean hotel, quiet location, close to the sea, to the center and to the bus / approx. 5 minutes/. Beautiful view of the mountains, pool and sea. We had room number 2. Pool clean / 09m, 1.8m depth 3m/. The area around the pool is clean, big, we always had a place. Covered showers and toilets by the pool. The staff is nice and helpful. They cleaned every day. We were at the end of August with a baby and we were max. satisfied.

We have just come back from 12 days at the Marianna Hotel and would recommend it very much! All the staff & owners were very friendly, Tracey on reception & lovely Tilly at the pool bar. The hotel is set amongst fabulous mountains & rooms are very clean, towels are changed daily. Also you get a pool towel which you are allowed to take to the beach. We had breakfast every day, which was a continental style, enough of everything & very tasty. The pool area was very nice, pool bar, plenty of sunbeds & the large pool which was exhilarating! Tracey, on reception, can arrange any trips for you. We had a private trip around the Island, with the owners son & we learnt a lot about the Island. We would recommendthe sunset boat trip too. The sunsets are amazing at Fira & Oui. The black beach and plenty of restaurants are 5 minutes from the hotel. The bus into Fira was 2 euros 40 cents one way and took about 25 minutes. From there you could get another bus to Oui which would be about another half an hour. Glenn & Elaine.

We are a couple, mid 40s, have done a lot of travelling and pretty active. The hotel offered a pick-up from airport which was helpful (at a fee), it was very clean and our room (4) was pool/sea view had been modernised, which was very comfortable/pleasing. A small fridge in room. Glasses never got replaced (cleaning issue). The hotel is around a 5 minute stroll into the main ***** of restaurants/bars, church for local bus stop and shops, so very accessible to beach etc also. Lovely pool/poolside area and sunbeds. The staff (aside from Tracey) are polite/functional but not friendly. If you're looking for an open-armed, warm Greek welcome, perhaps look elsewhere. We were met with lots of 'can't wait to finish/end of season comments/fatigue', which isn't what one wants to hear. We were disappointed with the lack of atmosphere by the pool, no music (aside from when the girl working there had it on her phone) so it felt a little 'dead'. No poolside food menu or restaurant available at hotel and the pool bar only open for drinks from 11.30am-4.30pm during the day, but you get told off for drinking/eating your own. which feels weird as some rooms are self-catering and they don't cover the whole day. Tracey was helpful, friendly and informative, with trip, transfer, car hire and local bus info. Breakfast was fine, plenty of choice, albeit very repetitive. Same daily. Coffee weak and they cook so many fried eggs which go cold in the terrine, so a waste. It has nice views.

3 star hotel giving 5 star service I’ve been to the Marianna a few times and I have never been disappointed. From Babis picking up from the airport, to the warm welcome in reception from Tracey and Giannis, with Maria and Vasilis and their fabulous friendly team in the main hotel, cleaning the rooms daily and offering a great selection for breakfast, with pastries, cold continental buffet and hot ‘fry up’ Greek style - to the smiley welcome from Tilly running the pool bar. This is a 3 star hotel giving a 5 star service.

Wonderful stay. Hotel was a very nice family run small hotel that is perfect if you don't want to stay in a congested area. Hotel and the owners were wonderful. Everything you need is there. Short walk around the corner from the beach with restaurants and shops. I could have stayed there the whole week and not go to the bigger cities. Next time we will make it a week and just explore the area. You must take the island tour with them, it was fantastic.

Stayed for two nights in this beautiful clean hotel. We had a top floor triple room overlooking the pool. Staff at the hotel were friendly and always seemed to have time to talk to guests. The pool was brilliant, not the usual size for Santorini, you could actually swim in it. Located 5 minutes walk from the beach I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel to others.
