We started to stay in Paradores over 15 years ago. I can see the decline in services and attention to basic maintenance. But what irritate me the most is the lack of “ramps” for movilizó impaired customers and even for those heavy wheeled travel bags. Still the staff is very attentive. The common areas are very clean.

We had a wonderful stay at this hotel, which is housed in a beautifully preserved 17th-century building. The attention to detail in maintaining the historic charm is evident, with tasteful decor and stunning old furniture pieces that add to the ambiance. Despite being located in the heart of town, in an area with restricted car access, the hotel offers the convenience of its own parking space. We were lucky to stay in room 205, which was not only incredibly spacious but also had its own private veranda. The outdoor space was beautifully furnished with a table for four and two sunbeds, perfect for relaxing. One evening, we decided to order room service and enjoyed a delicious spread of local cheeses and embutidos, all paired with a chilled bottle of rosé wine. It was a perfect way to unwind and savor the ambiance of this charming hotel.

A really beautiful hotel in a gorgeous location. But something has gone badly wrong with the management. The staff were sour faced and unhelpful, and the food was literally inedible. I'm not fussy about food and will eat almost anything but I've never had anything quite so awful. I was offered a refund on my father's room and half board as he couldn't make it due to illness, but have been unable to obtain the refund through *********** as it requires written confirmation that the refund was offered. Despite several phone calls and emails requesting that confirmation the hotel hasn't sent it (despite several verbal promises that they would), meaning *********** gets to keep my money and I get no refund. Not a good experience all round.

We use this beautiful parador as a stop over before catching the ferry from Santander. We were disappointed last year but thought we’d try again…. The Good , the hotel is absolutely stunning ,beautiful clean hugh room in a fabolous location . The bad, £14 a night to park a motorcycle ,£5 supplements for HB dinner guests. & finally the reason for no return.. dinner was very disappointing we were served by some very unhappy overworked staff & breakfast was terrible … very bad vibes again ,staff not friendly . Really sad to submit this review but the cost of the stay it would of been nice to leave happy

First off, this Parador is top notch. Truly excellent in every way. Nevertheless the streets of Santillana Del Mar are so thick and treacherously paved with cobblestones that it is quite difficult to walk around the town. The parking lot is also a treacherous drive down a narrow passageway. I only mention this because while the parador is truly stunning and I highly recommend visiting, it’s not that fun to limp around town, especially if you have the slightest imbalance issues.

Stayed for just 1 night at Gil Blas which was great! Excellent service and good food in a wonderful environment. Definitely worth a short stay…..
