Good hearted staff are trying their best with completely inadequate facilities/staffing. The biggest problem is that a major lift to the majority of rooms is out and apparently has been for months. That has one toting bags up three flights of stairs AFTER the first lift and long hallway. Then another long hallway, and then down another flight of stairs to the notorious room 338, which is a full block away from the entrance on Priestgate, and whose window rattles all night with any wind.
My shower head rail was hanging off the wall, but was repaired the very next morning when I reported it.
The night manager was briskly setting and clearing tables the next morning, as apparently only the cook arrived. There was very little food available at 8:30, so I didn’t bother the next day even eating. None of the staff complained about what are clearly difficult circumstances, with housekeepers toting linens and cleaning supplies up and down all those stairs.
Not at all up to Mercure standards. Come on, Mercure, support this hotel which bears your brand.
