First, I was so grateful to have had a place to stay so late at night when I got to the Bay Area. There was a man in front of me who could barely cough up $22 for a room. And the rooms cost way more than that. He was trying desperately to get into something. I went outside and waited until there be some ending. It was 12:45 am.
The man moves away from the window, and I am able to check in for my room. The clerk was efficient, and I left as quickly as I could. The man mentioned above was in the room while I was checking in. I needed to get out of there.
Now, going into the room, O noticed it looked a bit dated. The writing table had no chair, and one had to use the bed. Also, the hotel phone was in the drawer. No kidding. And don’t think of using it because it does not work. Good thing I have a working phone.
The area reminds me of some of the more gritty areas of New Jersey. It was safe enough, but looks and feels really northern.
One pleasant surprise was that there was a balcony I used briefly in the morning. Not much of a view, but still nice to have.
The bathroom was functional, and I used it to wash up and get ready for what lies ahead in my trip.
The bed was really comfy and I slept well.
I stayed here to be close to trains going further north into California. I would describe it as fair.
