Forest Fire Evacuation I was a lone tourist caught up in the recent evacuations, as a result of the forest fires on beautiful Rhodes. It was a scary experience being shipped around the island to evacuation centres & safe bases. Eventually I was transferred to Hotel Marquise where staff could not have been more empathic & kind. The first evening the hotel was full so I slept on a mattress in the conference suite, where access to a shower in the beautiful spa, bedding & refreshments were provided by staff. A young man, I believe called Stamatis at reception, ensured my safety & really went the extra mile in looking after my welfare, as did the rest of the staff, absolute angels. The hotel itself was like a dream after sleeping rough. Immaculately clean, the most comfortable bed & such a spacious bedroom overlooking the gardens. Every member of staff was so naturally caring & attentive. I spent most of my time at the pool, where I joined in organised games & met other people. A lovely relaxed atmosphere & the pool restaurant/ bar in the centre of the pools was magnificent. Smiling & happy waitress Georgia/Georgina always took time to check in with me at lunch which was so appreciated. The private beach was immaculate with comfortable beds, shade & a café bar. It had a private walkway to the beach & although it was literally a 5 min walk on a private pathway, the hotel would transport you there due to the heat. Main restaurant was highly organised, provided a magnificent choice of foods & catered for all tastes. You could also sit indoors or outdoors. Although I did not book this hotel & ended up here under unique circumstances, if I could afford to go back I certainly would support the staff & the hotel. Rhodes itself is a stunning & beautiful island with the kindest of people. I can’t thank everyone enough for taking care of me during the forest fire evacuation & I definitely will return to the island & hopefully La Marquise.
