Hotel Montaña Monteverde

The hotel has a gorgeous view. We had a nice stay. Friendly staff. Recommend.

Great location outside the town with fabulous views across to the Pacific Ocean. The sunsets were super from the outside rustic bar, small but in an ideal position. Our room was similarly rustic and comfortable taking advantage of the view. The evening meal was a la carte and very good but avoid the red wine. Breakfast was disappointing; limited selection of basically fruit and the ‘kept warm’ containers. No cereals, no yoghurt, no toaster, just very little choice. We did enjoy our stay here but it certainly provided the worst breakfast of all the hotels we had stayed at.

Where do I start… very dated. Gaps in the doors and (very dirty) bathroom roof so was like being in a wind tunnel. No air con or heating. Breakfast served until 9. We arrived at 8.15 to a totally cleared dining room with a small plate of fruit and cold congealed offerings. Dining room staff totally disinterested, I appreciate this hotel is in a mountainous area but seriously the steep inclines and declines to and from the rooms require you to be either a mountain goat or an Olympic athlete (and we are fit). Walk into Santa Elena took us 20 minutes, mostly steep downhills. We taxied back as return walk was / There is a coffee machine in the room with 2 pods. Once you have used them you have to pay $3 for more. Reception staff were pleasant and that was the only good thing about this hotel.

Very tired accommodation with an amazing view down to the Pacific Coast. No heating,AC, Ceiling fan or safe. Great large balcony but doors didn’t lock with obvious signs of activity across the roof! No lift. Great fruit for breakfast but everything else was very poor.

The third stop on our round trip through Costa Rica. Beautiful hotel with a great, varied breakfast. The rooms are very large and comfortable - and offer a great, wide view. You can take short and longer walks directly from the hotel - a forest borders directly on the property and there you can - with luck - see monkeys and lots of birds (hummingbirds and toucans). The hotel is located on the outskirts of the village - but you can still walk to the village with its various restaurants and small supermarkets in just a few minutes.

If you are looking for a very good night sleep surrounded by pure nature, then hotel Montaña Monteverde is your place to stay. The staff is really friendly and welcoming, in particular, Silvia, the lady at the reception. She went the extra mile to explain everything about the hotel as well as the surrounding area and she was very helpful when we tried booking our Coffee and Chocolate tour as the website would not work. She took her time to contact the tour provider and organise the booking for us including de pick up from the hotel. The rooms are basic but you have everything you need. Our room was on the ground floor and had a little private patio facing the forest and with an amazing view to the mountains and valley. Breakfast was very nice too as it was a typical dish from Costa Rica and all tables are facing out with a great view to enjoy. Very eco friendly hotel. I would definitely recommend this place to stay and don’t be put off by it being outside the town as the walk to the town centre takes only 20 minutes.
