MPT Gateway Retreat, Sanchi

Really enjoyed my stay at the Gateway Retreat, Sanchi. The staff helped arrange a trip to the Udaygiri Caves, and the location of the hotel means you are not far from the Sanchi Stupas. The bar is cosy with fun decor. I love that I could see langurs and a great variety of birdlife at the hotel gardens. I had an early evening train and was kindly given a late check-out. Thanks to all the team for a great stay.

The resort is neat and clean, well maintained. The rooms are well appointed and spacious. I especially liked the fact that the food in the restaurant was served with special emphasis on hygiene. A special thank you to Mr. Ashok Arora who went above and beyond the call of duty and helped us figure out the details of the rest of our trip too.

We visited the resort in March 2024 and stayed for 1 day/2 nights. The pros and cons experienced while staying in the hotel is as follows: Pros: a) Hotel location is easily accessible to Sanchi Stupa. The Sanchi railway station is only a 10 minute walk from the hotel. b) The resort has a kids play area, sauna bath, adequate parking space and lush greenery inside. c) The food is tasty and the resort serves both non-vegetarian/ vegetarian dishes. d) The hotel staff are friendly. e) The breakfast buffet is complimentary and evenly spread with juices/fruits/flakes/poha/paratha/cookies/poori etc which differs everyday. f) The room service is very prompt. Cons: a) The hotel rooms/washrooms look outdated and it is very difficult to lock the main doors as they are jammed. b)The ala carte menu is expensive considering the quantity of the food served. c) When we checked inside the rooms, there was a weird smell emitting from the washrooms probably due to less water pressure in the flush tanks. d) The swimming pool is under maintenance since November 2023 and hence if you are interested in accessing the pool please contact the hotel staff before booking. Overall a good stay in the hotel.

Amazingly good food . Mr Vivek one of the servers was also very good at suggesting and getting the food . Amazing person with jolly behaviour and honesty. Did not accept the extra tip over the service charge . PS: don’t miss out on their in house papaya murabba.

The behaviour of waiter was not up to the mark. Without any rush or reservation we were shifted to unconvient seating area.Food was disaster. They served full of oil papad instead of masala papad.we felt very insulting as we had archeology students with us.

Dear MPT chair***, Namaste My family and stayed for a night in your MPT Gateway property at Sanchi/ Vidisha on 24th June. We arrived at the hotel a bit late in the evening, driving long distance from Khajuraho. Through M/S Indo Pacific Holidays, copied on this email, I had booked two rooms at your property. The lobby was decked perfectly and the front desk was very cooperative. Once the ushers opened the doors of the rooms, we were in for a shock. The rooms were damp. Walls had multiple seepage issues. Rooms was smelling horrible and with mosquitoes. The door frames were horribly painted, cushions and drapes were probably 10+ years old and window grille was rusty. Couldn’t make up our mind to spend the night in those rooms. Upon complaining, the resident ***ager said, “agree there are these issues. We will show you all the rooms that are available and you are welcome to take any that you like“. That was very generous of him but turned out to be of zero help. We checked about 7 rooms and each was worse than its predecessor. Frustrated, I decided to take just one room to spend the night and requested the staff to arrange an extra bed. Again, the staff was helpful. The experience was so negative that I asked my tour operator to cancel the MPT bookings at the next two destinations, namely, Ujjain and Omkareshwar, booked for 25th and 26th respectively, even though it meant losing lots of money. Ended up making new reservations at Sayaji Hotel Indore. Coming from the US, I picked MPT properties with a view to support the government run business. I was wrong. Your staff was helpless.
