Run, don’t walk to book this hotel. Residential in feel and luxury by experience, The Saint James was the highlight of our two week European vacation. This converted chateau feels like you were invited to a private estate. From the newly designed rooms and common areas that spared no expense to the gated private gardens, it is the perfect place to escape from the hustle of Paris. With approximately 50 rooms and suites, the scale feels wonderfully human, as opposed to the bustle of a traditional hotel. The newly designed and renovated rooms provide the perfect private respite, but the other areas of the hotel are equally enticing. The restaurant that serves gourmet cuisine in the evening somehow manages to be the perfect casual breakfast area tucked behind the comfortable lobby, along with the delightfully intimate bar area that feels like you were invited into your host’s private library because, indeed you were. The hotel also has a full service spa, indoor pool, fitness center, and sauna on the ground floor tucked away yet easily reached . You can truly sink into your stay and have a feast for all of your senses. None of us wanted to leave. The grandeur of the property is only exceeded by the staff, who are available for your every need in the most scrumptiously subtle way. Pilou, the beloved hotel cat (who clearly and correctly believes the estate belongs to him) was a highlight as he held court mainly in the dining room and bar. I skipped planned activities to spend more time enjoying the hotel and I am glad I did. This being our first Christmas away from home, I worried about missing our traditional celebration, particularly traveling with our teen. I need not have worried. From the private Christmas lights tour impeccably arranged by the concierge to the sweet stocking found on our door on Christmas morning, this holiday was perfect. While much of travel is memorable for the places you visit or activities you do, the Saint James is uniquely memorable for the way it makes you feel and that is 100% worth the stay. We can’t wait to return.
