There was little storage for a 4 night stay & the bathroom needed upgrading as there was a lot of black mould around the bath & the towel rail was rusty. There was little storage for toiletries in the bathroom and the extractor fan didn't work. The central heating and towel rail (connected to the central heating) weren't working either. When we questioned this, we were advised that the thermostat on the landing controlled all rooms & if turned up guests complained the other rooms were too hot. Thankfully, there was an electric heater in the wardrobe which we had to use. The room was dark due to dim lighting and shutters rather than curtains which had to be closed when undressing/dressing as the window looked out onto the main road. The access to the rooms were either from the bar area or stairs outside up to the fire exit. This was fine as we were given a key to access the fire exit, but I have to comment on the state of the carpet of the stairs inside the pub. It was light beige in colour & was so dirty it was actually black in parts and when being taken to our room for the first time, it made me wonder what the room was going to be like. I appreciate that to replace the carpet wouldn’t be cheap and particularly after a reduced income due to the pandemic, but maybe a good clean would make it a little more inviting. I suppose this isn’t too much of an issue as the rest of the place appeared clean, but as a first impression, it’s not great.
