Likinia is a new hotel, but it blends seamlessly with its surroundings in the old fortress. The room was beautiful and very well appointed. Breakfast on the terrace was a treat; the nearby areas are covered with orange groves, and the freshly squeezed orange juice at Likinia was the best I’ve ever tasted. The sweet proprietor and staff care about the hotel, and it shows.

Staying in Likinia’s meticulously restored castle suite was nothing less than MAGICAL. Besides the interior beauty of the room, there were great views of the sea and the other structures that make the castle. The staff were extremely friendly and accommodating. The breakfast on a flowering private terrace with views of the sea and castle, was delicious and included many homemade item featuring the local fruits and veggies. Likinia is a longer walk into the castle than some other choices….we simply emptied out one suitcase and took enough for our short stay, so the longer walk was not a problem for us. Wearing good shoes for cobblestone walk also helped a lot.

If you consider staying here, you need to be aware of the following, and factor it in to your choice. Mobility- you need to be able to walk and negotiate uneven steps. Wear grippy shoes (says the person who wore Birkenstocks on the morning coffee run- no in-room coffee-and nearly took a header); difficult to find at night- arrive during the day or bring a headlamp and/or flashlights to navigate to the hotel- the signs are not well placed and we had trouble finding it, compounded by the paths being unlit; unsafe room conditions- the doors lock with a key from the inside, which is considered a fire safety hazard; the room we stayed in had a minuscule shower with no curtain, with a handheld without a mount, allowing water to spray all of the electrical fixtures, one of which was malfunctioning (light was flickering); hot water (“if we wanted it” available only by flipping a breaker); no smoke detector in room. We do understand that this hotel is in an ancient place, but many of these safety issues could be fixed easily while maintaining the historic building. For the amount we spent, we expected better.

Stayed two nights at this wonderful charming hotel, in the middle of the old town , at suite number one, with balcony facing the sea. Large elegant suite, in ancient building. Hosts were very nice and helpful, breakfast is tasty traditional greek, served either in a castle like room or on the balcony, if weather permits. The perfect hotel to stay in Monemvasia.

We stayed at the Likinia Hotel for one night in late October, 2023. We stayed in a room that fronted on the water. We required assistance to get our luggage to the hotel. The route meanders through a cobble stone walk that is challenging for a couple in their 70s even without a suitcase. Call ahead to arrange for help getting anything other than a light carry on suitcase to the room. The room was nice (photo attached) with a comfortable bed and wonderful marble floors. The one feature that is limiting is a small bathroom with a challenging shower. Unless you are child-sized, it is only useful as a spray nozzle that allows one to wash off while sitting at the edge of the very small enclosure that constitutes the shower. Hot water requires one to turn on/off the water heater. The location is magical - inside a walled fortress with numerous restaurants and shops. We enjoyed our visit to the hotel very much. Monemvasia and the hotel are unique, well-worth the trip and very pleasant.

Fun location but a haul with bags. We paid to have someone carry our bags out. Easy. Perhaps better room choices if you contact the hotel directly.

I was having trouble finding any hotel in Monemvasia that would allow one night’s booking on a Friday in October. One night is enough to enjoy the atmosphere of the castle and it would be a huge pain to leave with the car and park and hike in again. Likinia is located toward the back half of the lower town, a steep incline and several steps from the entrance gate. Pack accordingly. I only took my shoulder bag and found myself regretting that I didn’t unload everything I didn’t need to make my bag lighter. Our suite (No. 1 suite) was lovely. Located on the group floor. Very spacious. Decent size shower width wise, but a bit short and would be difficult for six-foot tall persons to manage. Only a handheld wand, which was not uncommon during our Greek hotel stays. We were thrilled to have a 500 ML bottle of wine waiting for us as well as some Cokes and waters. The included breakfast was decent enough the next morning. The staff we dealt with were very pleasant and accommodating. Only weird thing, there is an excavated hole with glass floor right at the entrance to the room. Lit up at night so you could see down in it which was a bit creepy, not unlike a vampire lair. I was able to avoid stepping on that spot the entire time. But my husband stepped there and lived to tell the tale. The old lady checking us in walked over it like it was nothing.
