빌라 마이아 리옹(Villa Maia)

This is such a wonderful gem of a hotel, it makes Lyon feel like a holiday home almost immediately. The front desk staff was only too happy to open the door to greet you, they are located in their own cozy corner on the ground floor, rather spartan because everything else - bar, breakfast spot, cocktail lounge - is up the stairs. The hotel may look deceptively quiet but we have stayed in such places where you feel like you have the whole place to yourself, when actually, it does have other hotel guests. Perched on the ancient Fourviere hills and two minutes down the slope from the Roman amphitheatre, the location is within walking distance to the Notre Dame as well as the funicular down to Vieux Lyon. The pool is really relaxing after a whole day of exploring the walking city, and has a fabulous spa of steam and sauna and massage services (book ahead). We checked in slightly earlier and were redirected to the cafe with a wide view of the city and rivers. Food was excellent. The concierge team is very friendly - Francois, Julien and Alvaro can quickly suggest and advise and research for you. Francois sorted out a dinner reservation for me where I had booked the wrong date and purchased extra meal vouchers. A really lovely time, we are telling everyone to go to Lyon now.

An exceptional property located 300 meters above the Rhone and Saone rivers, with a commanding view of Lyon. The property is 7 years old, but is in virtually the same condition it must have been upon opening. A small boutique hotel, but with all of the amenities of a large property. Exceptionally responsive Concierge Team. Complimentary breakfast delivered in room (via Leading Hotels of the World) was varied every day. The property is built above the original Roman location. Steps from stunning a Roman Amphitheater. Easy access to old Lyon via a funicular.

if you ever go to Lyon....do not doubt, this is the hotel you need. The staff is helpful and very professional. The accommodation is very clean and the rooms are large as is the bathroom. Last but not least: at breakfast they serve delicious coffee!

Most beautiful and charming hotel in Lyon ! The staff is extremely kind and very welcoming. The bedroom was huge, the view amazing, the food delicious at Tetedois restaurant. The spa & the massages were great. Well, everything was perfect :-) Thanks a lot!

Fabulous hotel. Great staff, beautiful rooms, very comfortable bed, free movies on the tv, don’t need Netflix. We arranged massages before we arrived, which I recommend doing. She was an excellent massage therapist. From the bellboys to the barmen, everyone was fantastic. Five star experience.

Situated at the top of a hill, the Villa Maia has a sweeping view of the city. The hotel property is beautiful with a bar, several seating areas to enjoy, as well as a relaxing garden area. Our room was very comfortable, well appointed (including a small, complementary minibar and bottled water), and the view was so nice we decided to cancel our dinner plans to eat on our balcony overlooking the city. The hotel staff was friendly, attentive, and made us feel very pampered.

Outstanding hotel with exceptional staff and service. The concierge was the best I have ever met. We had a wonderful stay and everyone took exceptional care of any and all of our requests. Everything would have been walking distance if it wasn’t very cold outside.

I was a little nervous about this hotel and I had seen some mixed reviews. It is a boutique hotel so don't expect a chain hotel like Four Seasons or Fairmont. We checked in and the check was very polite. You could tell English was uncomfortable for some staff but they were always pleasant and tried their best. When they didn't understand something, they got a colleague to assist We were escorted to a room by the check in person and given a tour of the room. Very nice personal touch. The room was advertised. We had a city suite room (Room 304) which gave us a panoramic view of the city. It was pricey but worth it. There was complimentary water and a few snacks. Hotel is very close to the Fourviere Basicilica and Ancient Theatre. About 15 minutes walk. We ordered room service for dinner and breakfast and with the view, no real reason to go out. The food quality was really good. We also use their thermal spa. There was no one at night so we had the entire pool to ourselves. Nice hamman (like a sauna). Service was very attentive and polite. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Staff was always very helpful and smiling. Location terrific - away from the bustle but still walking distance to everything. Rooms very pleasant. Spa facilities great. The restaurants were if a very high quality
