Just hope you don't need anything from the Front Desk or Concierge.
The facilities and site of the RIU Palace are beautiful; the food and food service are first class; the hotel property is as clean as one could hope for. So what's the issue?
Well, there IS a telephone in each room, but it serves no real purpose other than to frustrate the guests. There are no buttons on it for Housekeeping, Front Desk or Restaurant. There IS a tiny sticker on the phone with extensions for the Front Desk, but nobody answers - ever. I called four times one afternoon, and after the last time walked the lengthy path back to the main entrance. There were no guests waiting with four attendants behind the desk. This all became a lot more serious when I took a fall in my room, hit my head hard on the floor, and again couldn't reach anyone on the phone. My wife had to run down to the Front Desk and back. The fall required medical attention in the room and then a bumpy ride to the hospital. RIU responded quickly, but the first person to arrive was the "Guest Services" rep, who subsequently took photos of me and the blood in the room without asking me first. She did assure me as I headed to the hospital that they would follow up with the hospital and me when I returned. I never heard anything from the hotel, nor did they offer us anything further. There are some people working on the Front Desk who do not seem to be enjoying their jobs or attending to guests. Changes needed.
