Unfriendly reception staff on arrival and air conditioning not working in our room and it was freezing inside!!! After numerous requests given a small noisy fan heater. No apology or care - it was a 7degree night! Restaurant in hotel overpriced, food inedible and again the space was cold.

Wonderful staff, wonderful food, great room accomodation. MINHO it's a very nice place in the world to rest and enjoy beautiful landscapes. The red wine called " vinhão " it's very good. Also very near is a beach called Vila Praia de Âncora.

The good first: the restaurant food was really delicious. We had the baked cod. The red wine was good too. The front desk was very helpful, they helped coordinate taxis and answer questions. Now the bad: we were on the top floor. The room very strongly smelled like mold. There is nothing I can say that would make that mold smell not have happened. The hallway smelled like mold too. If they don’t fix whatever is going on there, they could have a health hazard on their hands. I guess the good thing is the lobby didn’t smell like mold.

Stay away. The place is falling apart. SPA embarassinhky shabby. Dew odor everywhere. Unfriendly staff. Overpriced. The “design” rooms are small and cheaply built, the structure doesn’t rotate as advertised. Restaurant below par. Stay away.

The mold in this place is not good. Especially in the basement where the pool is, and I could also smell it in the hallways through the carpet. I wouldn't go there. The. water looked horrible.Management needs to look into this soon.

The rooms and facilities are fantastico but the reception staff are more interested in visiting the kitchen than providing service to the paying guest

The food was good but it was simply unacceptable to literally wait from 8 pm when we ordered until 10:15 to get our entree. I was beyond hungry and tired. They should have told us when we came that it would take 2 hours and we would have ate somewhere else. Only half of the tables were full. I would suggest going somewhere else. The food is simply not worth the wait.

We have mixed feelings about this hotel. Unlike all the other hotels on our 3 week visit to northern Portugal, Design & Wine clearly wants to be minimalist, modern and trendy. From our perspective, there are pluses and minuses. On the plus side, it was well-located and extremely clean and comfortable. On the negative side, we were given the "Video Game" room, which was painted entirely black with a gold Pac Man type grid embossed on the black. While striking, the room was very dark (the lighting is also minimalist). The shower was incredible, with four separate choices for where you wanted the water to come out. Unfortunately, the sink offered minimal counter space. The staff was friendly, but the receptionist also had to service the restaurant, so the desk was often deserted. We don't regret staying there and had a very comfortable night sleep, but probably wouldn't go back.
