Baan Suchadaa Lampang Resort

A fantastic guest house on the edge of Lampang. Baas the owner is a superb host who speaks fluent English, German and Dutch. Clearly nothing is too much trouble. The accommodation is made up of tastefully decorated small lodges, surrounding a small pond. The central building with bar and restaurant overlooks a nice pool, which has great views over paddy fields to towards distant mountains. Dinner must be ordered before 1700 and is served overlooking the pool. My prawn tom yum and Thai steak salad were excellent.

This very small hotel (just 7 rooms) is in a beautiful setting with nice facilities. The view from the restaurant next to the pool overlooking the rice paddies is superb. Then why just 3 stars? First, the hotel is very isolated and a 15 minute drive into town. The town itself has very little to offer besides a few interesting temples. Second, the choices at the on-site restaurant are quite limited and going into town is a hassle. Third, the staff were very friendly but had limited (some no) English. The biggest problem was the bed in the Deluxe "Lotus" room which is just a mattress on a platform with 2 steps up from the main floor. This was very difficult (and somewhat dangerous) to get in and out of bed. - especially for seniors. Maybe the other Deluxe rooms have a different set-up? Lastly, the credit card reader did not function so cash was the only way to pay for meals and incidentals.

We visited this hotel on a one night stopover. Initially slightly unconvinced due to the arrivals procedure and need to book meals in advance (it's a small place). Nonetheless the hotel had plenty of charm and a lovely location overlooking paddy fields; also big rooms with plenty of local Thai style. Not so good if you wish to visit Lampang and don't have your own transport as getting a taxi is problematic, apparently. Food good, and overall for the price an absolute steal!

This hotel is a hidden gem. Beautifully decorated, spacious room, great amenities and a top notch staff. From the moment you arrive to the minute you leave you are treated as a friend. The pool is lovely, the food is very good. I would highly recommend the hotel to anyone looking for a great place to relax.
