Ampersand Resort

The most amazing hotel we have ever stayed in and run with love from the owner and all the staff . Just book it and you will see this is paradise .we spent 6 days at the hotel very quite but we could telex with all the normal facilities and with also a private beach .the owners are wonderfull helpful people and no matter what you required they were their to help you . We will return in 2025 to be Tast this magic once again .

Not a 5 star hotel. The so called "beach" is really small and you cannot swim there without hurting your feet (many rocks in the water). The rooms are actually quite small and miss important items. The bed is also made for dwarfs. If that wasn't enough, this "hotel" is far away from everything. You won't find a proper beach, restaurants, or anything close by.

The experience I had at Ampersand was exceptional! I don’t know where to begin. The hotel itself was absolutely breathtaking! The hotel’s beauty perfectly complemented the ocean views and nature. The room was incredible! The white hotel was meticulously designed in an artistic way and it truly felt heavenly. The private beach was quiet and it gave me the opportunity to take time to relax. Couple the beauty with the extraordinary service and it was magical! I can’t say enough about the wonderful service (maybe the nicest people I ever met). I’ve traveled all over the world (always staying in high-end hotels) and this was the best! It was perfection, homey and it moved me. This is something that I’ve never experienced from a hotel/staff and I’m truly grateful for the time I spent there. Mucky (hotel owner) thank you again my friend! I look forward to coming back! First of all don’t be distracted. It is simply not a beach hotel apart from a tiny patch of sand and it’s proximity to the sea. The design is beautiful but the service quality is more than unsatisfactory in all aspects (fully corresponding to the ‘serene minimalism’ they claim to provide). Make your own judgement by reading more reviews. I absolutely cannot recommend this hotel!

First of all I will start by saying that this review will be of a slightly different sort than usual, though I it will still serve the same purpose. I will start by asking anyone who is considering staying at Ampersand resort not to ask the question "is this resort good enough for me" and instead ask "am I good enough for this resort?". I say this for the simple reason that if you do not appreciate this place for what it is, then I would be dismayed to know that such a wonder had been wasted on someone. Now you may be saying to yourself "okay..... weird to have such a strong and off-putting opinion about a place that you only visited shortly", and it might be! I am however going to try to convince those who think they are worthy to visit Ampersand resort, as I have found it an enchanting experience that deserves more praise and attention than it gets. Let us start with the owner and founder of Ampersand before speaking about the resort itself. For all intents and purposes, to speak of one is to speak of the other. This man by the name of Muky is the soul of Ampersand, and I'm quite convinced that when he dies he will continue to live on as the Ampersand resort where he will continue to make it's guests as welcomed and cared for as possible. Imagine some super advanced AI that controls a spaceships lige support systems. The main word here is "care", because this man really really cares. He has meticulously drawn and designed every corner of this resort according to his vision, even constructing some of the furniture, as well as setting up the electrical lighting and sound system in the restaurant himself. All of this done for the sake of "care". We received some back story to the reason behind this when Muky confided in my mother, sister and I, that while he had received excellent service before, he had never experienced real care at any of the hotels or resorts he had stayed at throughout his life. Now I must say that after a week under Muky's care, every other hotel/high end resort experience has seemed hollow and vapid in comparison since. This soft spoken man will charm himself into the hearts of those willing to give him a chance, and his earnestness is like a warm embrace that is difficult to say goodbye to. Even as a staunch introvert when it comes to hotel staff (as I am of the opinion that one does not travel to see the inside of a hotel room), I quickly realized that the crown jewel of this place was the eccentric, intelligent, hilarious, cultured, genuine, sensitive, tasteful and motivated person called Muky. All of these aspects are present in everything from the architecture and design, to the food, the service and even the sanitation of the resort. I promise that none of these practical aspects are lacking. However, I am telling you, the reader, that you can go to one of the hundreds of resorts on Koh Samui and get a streamlined experience that will satisfy your needs, but if you want a destination that provides an experience,

What an AMAZING hotel. It was like walking into a dream… the hotel reminds me of Gaudi or Tim Burton. Everything is deliciously curvy and beautifully designed. The walls, the windows, the winding staircase, the pool, the pathways even the beds - not a straight line in sight and the effect is breathtaking. The building itself is the perfect place to sit and reflect on life - with birds nesting in the light fittings which fills the reception with continuous bird song. The infinity pool is deep and wide enough to swim properly with a shallow addition for kids and it overlooks a stunning view. The rooms are spacious and spotlessly clean with a large balcony overlooking the sea. The hotel has a restaurant which served fresh fish along with thai dishes and was really good, also it was lovely eating overlooking the sea. Breakfast was unusual but generous and delicious and the eccentricity suited the place. A boutique shop sells reasonably priced trinkets. The owner (who it transpires built the whole thing himself) is an unassuming genius who could not be more friendly and more amenable although as it’s still brand new he is running around doing everything himself - I suspect he will eventually find people to do more on his behalf. The only two downsides are the hotel beach was no good for swimming at the time we went - all rocks - I don’t think this would change much but the owner did mention tides change so maybe is would be better earlier in the year. Second, there isn’t much option locally in terms of beach bars and restaurants. Luckily it is easy to get taxis to take you further afield so you aren’t trapped but it’s not a place you can wander down the beach for a swim and a beer. There is another beach which is a five minute walk away which is a larger bay and suitable for kids to swim (ie very shallow) and that does have a couple of shacks that serve excellent food - although they aren’t the prettiest places i’ve ever seen. I had to think twice before writing this review as we definitely want to come back but worry it will be full when we try to book as it won’t stay a hidden gem for long. Thanks for a wonderful stay
