Hills Inn

This place took me back to my childhood. My family stayed in motels like this when we traveled as a family. And that was 50 years ago or more! This place has been recently refurbished, and they’ve done a nice job. Everything was extremely clean, and the air conditioner was brand new and it worked very well. The owner is personable and attentive. The entire staff is very caring. Loved the experience. Our one issue was the mattress wrap to ensure no bedbugs find a home there. It actually makes you sweat in bed. The owner has tried to mitigate that issue with cooling bamboo sheets, but they just can’t do the job entirely. That was our only complaint. Otherwise, great stay.

Stayed 2-nights on our hiking trek on the Mickelson Trail. Very comfy beds and bedding, on-site laundry, extremely clean and quiet. Our balcony room looked out at a Black Hills pine-covered hill, and benches for reading, resting, contemplation were outside rooms. Wally was welcoming, an excellent resource, and helpful.

My husband and his brothers stayed here on way to Sturgis. Great hotel, nice pool area. They all enjoyed it after a long day of riding. So nice to have a nice surprise every once in awhile! I had to add on another room a few days before the trip - owner could have jacked up the rate for the second room right during Sturgis - but he honored the original rate. We will be back! Thank you!

The rooms are very clean and comfortable. The new mattresses are soft and inviting. The owners are very friendly and accommodating. The biscuits and gravy were delicious. Highly recommend. My kids loved the outdoor pool. I would defiantly stay here again.

This is a motel-style hotel. We were able to park right in front of the room which was appreciated because we were traveling with a lot of luggage and I didn’t have to fight my way through two or three sets of locked doors to get our stuff from the car to the room and back. The room was very comfortable with microwave and refrigerator and a nice easy chair. Breakfast wasn’t as elaborate as at the big corporate hotels but was very adequate. The gentleman I dealt with in the office was extremely personable and helpful. All in all, it was a top rate experience.

Perfect motel style accommodation , clean, cool and functional. Comfy bed , decent shower. If only they had cotton bedding....Adequate help yerself Brecky, friendly team running the place. Pool area spotless, whole motel very well maintained Great location, walkable to town along pretty river trail and Mammoths just a 40 minute pleasant stroll away. Even threw in a spectacular thunderstorm gratis.... Support family run businesses whenever you can.

Stayed here while visiting Hot Springs for the Mammoth Site. Motel is dated but very clean and comfortable. The free miniature golf was super fun too! Management is very attentive and provided good local recommendations. Free breakfast was very nice. Only complaint is the soaps provided left a waxy feel on your skin, so bring your own if you'll mind.

We spent a Best-Western-less night in Hot Springs so we could go to the Mammoth Site. It is a real, old-fashioned motor inn (I love motor inns - so conveient for parking and family loading/unloading). The rooms smell a bit musty, but you stop noticing shortly after. It's fine for a night. We did use the pool and it's not heated, but was just fine. However, it was super convenient to the Mammoth Site. Close to a good Mexican dinner place and terrific little coffee/light breakfast place in town. Mattress was fine.

The Hills Inn in Hot Springs is a basic motel within short walking distance to downtown shops. Do not expect any luxuries here; the rooms are very simple. There bed was fine, but the furniture is dated and the bathroom could use a upgrade. The proprietor is friendly and a continental breakfast is included in cramped space in the hotel office. If you have never been to the Black Hills before, don't expect fancy hotels. Most of the accommodations are similar to the Hills Inn - i.e., basic accommodations are the norm. Travelers to Hot Springs in 2024 should be aware that the downtown area is being turned upside down due to construction, thus it is very difficult to get around. If possible, avoid downtown at all costs or leave early in the day to get around the traffic lights.
