The check in was easy and clear instructions were provided about the facilities. Clean room with comfortable bed. Unfortunately there was no WiFi in the room that I stayed in and no mobile phone coverage on Vodafone for calls or mobile data. WiFi was available in the main building which had a bar and restaurant. The price of the room was very good.

Fantastic place. Great for walkers, cyclists & anyone that wants to discover the area.

Stayed in a 6 bed private room with en-suite, which offered enough space. The building was especially interesting, maintaining many of its historic features. Comunal lounge areas were a nice environment, although shared kitchen was rather small. Village of Hartington is only 2 min walk from hostel, with a few pubs and cafes. We ate at Devonshire Arms and Charles Cotton Hotel which were very good. Main downside was parking. When we turned up on the Friday evening to check in, the car park was full with cars parked all down the road too. We did manage to get a space on the other nights we stayed, but the car park could do with some marked bays, or being extended to increase capacity. Also, and a small critique, was the bathrooms did not have enough shelves/towel hooks. This was a similar issue in the bedrooms, with no where to put things other than on the floor. Aside from that a good stay and would recommend.

My daughter-in-law will be leading a residential school trip here in a couple of weeks, so we came to see the accommodation (and surrounding areas) in person. The hostel is in a fantastic location - close to local amenities, and it’s a great base from which to explore. I loved the building itself - it dates back to the 17th century and has retained its charm with beautiful stained glass windows and oak panelling throughout. We had a look at the dormitories, some of which have en-suite facilities. The rooms were clean and looked very comfortable. There are also Land Pods and Bell Tents within the grounds - which is somewhere I would love to stay at some point. Whilst there we ate in their restaurant - and we all thoroughly enjoyed our meals. They also cater for dietary requirements. All the staff we met were very friendly and really helpful. Highly recommended.

I’ve stayed in a lot of YHA hostels. Reception were nowhere to be found on check in. Parking is hugely oversubscribed- probably because of all the extra camping. Unless you’re arriving early, assume check in will take 45 minutes and that there will be nowhere to park. Rooms were as expected.

Lovely location & friendly staff. Flies EVERYWHERE which was a mega pain when trying to sleep. I understand the YH is next to a farm and with warmth= fly's. However, fly paper or window screens in the bedrooms would help a lot. It's a common pest which could be handled much better. The only fly paper seen about the place was in the kitchen.

Staff were very helpful and friendly. Room was clean and comfortable, and the location is great for both cycling and walking. There were a lot of flies about, including in the kitchen, which was a bit irritating. The electric fly killer in the latter didn't seem to be very effective against them. However, this is intended as an observation not a criticism.

I was unwell from recent heart surgery- couldn't change the booking with 2 days notice due to Expedia's rules. Shame as it was alot of money to me and my first planned hotel visit since surgery.

YHA Hartington Hall has a great range of accommodation, double rooms with en-suite too. Glamping tents and Pods are also in the grounds. Besides a brilliant place to stay, the cafe is open all day to non YHA members for excellent quality meals, beverages and cookies. From the lunch time menu we had yummy home made soup, jacket spud with huge fresh salad. Really great value. The YHA has a bar and extensive evening menu to rival any restaurant. Accommodation is very comfortable and really good value. So in summary, I highly recommend this hostel for great food and accommodation. The whole team where friendly and helpful, especially the receptionist who Jill gave us a very warm welcome with lots of local advice as to where to walk and cycle.
