Hotel Le Bastia is a well appointed three-star hotel. The hotel rooms are nice (we stayed in a two bed apartment- still part of the hotel building) which was spacious with a large bathroom and another separate toilet. The rooms are nicely decorated and the hotel was opened in 2020, so is relatively new. When you first enter your room, it can be quite dark as they have sliding shutters over the windows and from the outside and inside they look a little austere. However, they can be easily opened to let in the light and do a great job of keeping the sun at bay - which is very welcome, as it is HOT in Bastia in July! On the subject of temperature, Bastia was much more humid than other Mediterranean locations I have been to, mainly, one guesses to the proximity of the mountains, which the mist and clouds cling to quite often. Good news then, that the hotel rooms have great air-conditioning and it's quite a relief to step into q cool and less humid room after a day out exploring. The breakfast is adequate, lacking some variation, but in-line with other breakfasts I've had in France and at similar level hotels, like Best Western. Don't expect bacon, sausages or fresh made-to-order omelettes. The breakfast staff are warm and attentive and made our morning meals a pleasure. The view over Bastia from the breakfast area really starts your day off well. The reception staff were wonderful; friendly and engaging and delighted to help out where they can, in particular Ann Lore and Alice, classy and professional - make a great team. The only issue we had was with the cleaning staff, who l did a poor job of cleaning (the floor was filthy and there was a small amount of broken glass in a walk-in closet when we arrived) and didn't change the sheets until half-way through our second week. We didn't complain initially (we were trying to relax - plus we're British, lol!) but an incident where they came to clean and we asked for five minutes and they refused and started cleaning anyway because they were finishing for the day, was the last straw (they also left us no toilet rolls - none at all for five people). In Reception, Alice handled it beautifully, informing me that the sheets should be changed every three days. She called management to deal with them and Ann arranged for the floor to be mopped. Both these things were done the next morning. The swimming pool is small but lovely to look at and nice to hang out around. Unfortunately, the pool filters could do with some cleaning as there was quite a build up of hair and debris, like people's old plasters, that was a bit off-putting! Bastia is a port and is served by ferries from France and Italy, thus many guests only stay a day or two. We stayed for a whole two weeks and apart from the issue with the cleaners, we had a really lovely time. The only two things that might have improved our stay, would be larger safes in the room. After an accident in the mountains, we got stranded in Bastia. The hotel turned out to be a perfect place to stay. Super friendly staff who were always trying to help however they could. The rooms are spacious and there were even racks to get up from the toilet. The hotel provided a wheelchair for the person who had broken her ankle in the mountains. Everything was superclean (much cleaner than in the hospital) and the food was delicious. I don’t think we’ve ever stayed in a better hotel than this.

Rooms were modern, thoughtfully appointed, and tastefully furnished. Our family of four got 2 connecting classic rooms. The best part was definitely the staff. So professional, so efficient, so helpful, and very kind, especially to the children. They were always 2 steps ahead - eg asking if we needed dinner in the downstairs restaurant, giving a small gift to the children to occupy them at breakfast, and asking if we knew where to park. We will be back in Bastia in a week and staying at the Best Western again. Highly recommend this hotel.
