We have been visiting for more than 5 years, the service and staff are so friendly and very efficient. When we arrive it’s like coming to stay with friends as the management team Lisa and Lucy always give such a great welcome, the girls doing breakfast and rooms are also so very helpful and friendly with warm welcoming smiles. We have just finished 2 weeks and have booked rooms for 2020. We also enjoy meeting old friends who visit around the same time each year and the food in Franchoek continues to amaze with the quality available.

We've spent 2 nights in this beautiful residence and could not have been happier. Just 2 streets from the lively main street, there is a hidden gem and an oasis of peace you just have to visit. Very nice rooms, an endearing concept of common breakfast and dinner, a beautiful garden and pool and foremost the friendly staff make the stay a special experience. We want to thank Emma and the other ladies for their friendliness, time and impeccable service!

We booked the room months before stay. I contacted them via e-mail (just after booking) and asked for service prior our stay. I ordered as a surprise to my mother a bouquet of Protea flowers (they are her favorite) and an assortment of eclairs and pavlovas. I offered to pay for it in advance, but the hotel responded that it wasn't necessary. They didn't even give me payment details, since we booked the hotel via e-bookers. The specification was to have the flowers in our room when we walk in and pastries in the morning. You know, as a surprise to her. We arrived very late to the hotel and had to ring many times. The lady was surprosed and noted that she wasn't expecting us at all. Which is odd, since our booking confirmation had no mentioning of check-in timeline. Nor did their website. Trust me, I checked many times, because we were driving from Knysna. Just the normal mention of earliest check-in. Well, as I was afraid, the flowers were not there and when I asked, she told that she would get some in the morning. It wasn't even first in the morning, it was after the breakfast when we returned to the room. The flowers were not what I ordered, just Woolworths bouquet without Protea and regular pastries. At leas I hoped they wouldn't charge me for that but they did. I was very disappointed and upset.

This is a faux colonial-style two-story property with a small internal patio and a small pool in the middle of it. The rooms are quite spacious. Nothing special, but the design is fairly contemporary. If you are on the ground floor, the patio floorplan may make you a bit uncomfortable as the rooms are facing the internal patio, and so you'll need to have your drapes drawn to ensure some privacy (it's a glass wall - which is nice, of course, as long as you don't mind being exposed to everyone around). The service is good, all people we've come in contact with were very friendly and willing to help. The restaurant is ok, nothing impressive, but nothing to complain about, either. If you go for breakfast, be prepared to pay extra because a number of items are charged separately. The selection included in the buffet price is rather basic. They make good coffee, btw. The hotel does not have a gym on its premises - however, they have an arrangement with a Franshhoek Health Club which is literally within a 5-min walk - although rather basic/small by US standards, it's an excellent facility by SA standards (for all I have seen), packed with equipment and even featuring a two-lane swimming pool. Just pick up your pass at the hotel's front desk. The hotel has a fenced, secured parking lot. Probably the best feature of this hotel is its location right in the middle of Franshhoek's main "touristy" street with plenty of shops, cafes and other tourist attractions around.

We have travelled to Franschhoek once or twice a year for 12 years and this was the nicest accommodation we have stayed in, conveniently situated on edge of town. A lovely chateau with view over lake was fabulous (do choose a lake view as the bird life is wonderful). Although we did not use it, the large kitchen is well equipped. Breakfast is excellent and staff in dining room are charming and helpful. Our springbok hock for dinner was very tasty and well cooked. Unlike some hotels, car can be unloaded outside room.

The best thing about this hotel is the views (from some rooms) of the mountains, the gardens (which are well maintained), the freshly baked muffins at breakfast (but you need to be there at 7am to get them) and the tennis court (which you can use at any time). Unfortunately everything else was really disappointing. The hotel is old and in desperate need of a renovation (which I understand will happen later this year and the hotel will close for 3 months). Most of the staff seem unhappy, they don’t say hello or smile. Service is very very slow. The room was ok but it was tired and parts of it falling apart. We didn’t have any electricity one night. A curtain pole fell down when you tried to close the curtain etc. Toiletries weren’t replenished, only very close to the end of our 5 night stay. Water bottles also weren’t replenished - the house keeping service was very inconsistent, almost like they only did half a job. One day we had no towels. The pool is nice but the sun loungers are very old, dirty and some uncomfortable due to them being so old. Often there were no towels at the pool later in the day and the pool bar was often unstaffed so you’d have to go on a hunt around the hotel to find someone that worked there to ask for pool towels, we were waiting over 20mins one day. The hotel has around 80 rooms I believe and tour groups often checked in each day. This meant a few of the afternoons by the pool were not very relaxing due to lack of sun beds and it being so busy/people fighting for sunshine and being sat on top of each other. The food wasn’t good. We ordered lunch one day at the pool, just some toasties but honestly I could have made better at home. Breakfast was as bad - only ordered the french toast off the hot menu but it was inedible. One day we saw a house keeper urinating in the garden next to where our room was. We were horrified and told the manager who was deeply apologetic. Hopefully that person was fired. Booking.com said there was hiking and cycling - there was neither. We had some treatments in the spa which were nice and we enjoyed. People seemed to smoke wherever they wanted to and you couldn’t get a decent cup of coffee at breakfast - make sure you ask them to use the proper machine by the bar (instead of the machine in the breakfast room). The hotel is 5 min drive from town, it’s easy to navigate and there are several vineyards close to the hotel. We definitely wouldn’t stay here again and we wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. It seemed to be a cheaper hotel option when you compare it to others in the area which is partly why we chose it - but there’s a reason why it’s cheaper!!
