Oak Ray Ella Gap Hotel

We hebben een fijn verblijf gehad bij dit hotel. De ligging is top, het ontbijt is goed en de medewerkers zijn erg vriendelijk. Enige nadeel is dat het erg gehorig is in het hotel, waardoor je de buren kan horen douchen en je hierdoor vroeg in de ochtend al wakker wordt.

Nice staff and average hotel. It is in need of a remodel, and for the price there are nicer places just outside of town. If you want to be in town then I guess the location is okay, but I'd strongly recommend any of the numerous places outside of town and using a TukTuk to get around. We agree with the many other reviews that suggest the hotel needs a major remodel; fresh paint, clean and disinfect the rooms, get better quality towels, etc.

It was an experience with mixed feelings! When we arrived, something went wrong with our booking. It was restored so we were given the best room (probably) of the hotel. A four person room with just my and my wife traveling. So plenty of space! The room had a spacious balcony with views at Ella main street. The perfect place for a drink with a view. So far so good! The hotel, however, hasn't had maintenance in a while. It needs paintjobs everywhere. And most of all, it's very dirty. Our room was very dirty and we complained about it. We were offered a new hotel, or a different room inside this hotel. Those rooms were not better, however, so we decided to stay. We didn't want to give up our spacious room and spacious balcony. The best thing for this hotel would be to close for a couple of months, and completely refurbish it: new rooms, new interior, new floors and new bathrooms. Breakfast wasn't fantastic either. So we decided to skip that (even though we had paid for it) and had ourselves breakfast in Ella main street. So in the end mixed feelings: great location, very friendly staff but dirty rooms and a poor quality of maintenance in the end. But: there aren't many hotels in the city centre of Ella. So what to do!?

Our room was very worn out, and the bathroom really needed an update, and cleaning. We stayed there for three nights and we didn't have any cleaning at all. The breakfast was okay. We didn't eat there for lunch or dinner. It is in the middle of a busy town, and the rooms are not soundproof, so there is a lot of noice. Also from the hall, beacuse of doors with slats. Our daugthers room had a terrasse, but they could'nt use it, because of a very bad smell from a toilet(?)window. Wifi did not work in our room. Pool area is small, but a nice pool. The staff is very friendly.

Our tour group stopped in the restaurant for a lunch break. The food was very good and very fresh, especially the vegetables on the buffet and salad bar. The staff was attentive and responded quickly to our requests. The rest room was very clean.

I'm not sure where to start, initial impressions were good, the location is very good (although near the main road so you get some road noise) and the entrance area and the pool area are very nice, reception staff are also very friendly. BUT, the room was terrible!!! We had a super deluxe room, it was huge (2 double beds) but it definitely wasn't super. There was a balcony, but we couldn't use it as the door was sealed closed. There was no safe or mini bar in the room despite them being advertised. On our last night we were awakend by the air-con unit dropping lumps of ice onto the floor.... The worst part was the bathroom, It was dirty, with mould around the sink, and the shower drained so slowly it flooded the whole bathroom Mrs S said that we definitely would not have stayed if we had booked more than 2 nights. I have got to say, we loved Ella, but definitely would not recommend the Ella Gap Hotel. As a group Oak Ray should be embarrassed by the state of the rooms.

Ella It was the worst experience that we had with their front office/ reservations staff since the time of the enquiry, and the payment of an advance. First, they didn’t acknowledge the advance payment for 5 days until I called the OakRay Kandy and asked someone there to remind. Then they sent a 5 digit booking confirmation code with no info related to the room category, room rate with the discount, booking basis as full board or the dates for which the rooms were booked. When there was no proper booking confirmation sent I sent an email with the agreed rates and the calculation of the amount due less the advance payment insisting to acknowledge/ confirm that we are on the same page as I didn’t want to hear a different story at the time of checkout. I called more than 6-7 times over the 3 weeks period and insisted for the above basic info to be confirmed via email for which the response was that it’s a big hotel and that we shouldn’t worry. I kept on insisting as a customer irrespective of the size of the hotel, I have a right to expect a proper booking confirmation which they continued to ignore. As expected, at the time of the check out I was asked as to who gave the rates (which was emailed to them copying their manager) and requested that I pay a higher amount (approx 10,000/-) more. The person at the front desk acted even worst and in front of my family he went around insisting that everyone of the front office team pay the difference the next day. He repeated the same ask to every other staff member of the hotel and continued to humiliate us. I regret the decision to visit OakRay Ella Gap Hotel and considering the unpleasant experience I will not recommend it to anyone as the staff is very unprofessional and are crooks.

Very Friendly staff. Food is very tasty but buffet varieties are limited. Full board category recommended. Rooms are very clean and comfortable. Bath room also good.I think the bathrooms need to be renovate. Nice pool. Can mannage all things with discuss with front office. 24 hour front office operations. Give execelent service more than price. Highly recommended. Thank you very much all staff !
