Royal Mile Suites by the Castle

Communication with the owners was great. I asked for an early check in as I was meeting friends to go on a walking tour and didn’t want to be carrying my bag with me. I messaged them in the morning asking if they could let me know just so I knew if I had to book luggage storage. I got a confirmation text at around 11 today all good to go. The room was stunning and decorated to a high standard, the bathroom immaculate. Also the instructions for finding the apar**ents and accessing the key etc were so clear it made everything super easy. Although next time I might ask for a room on one of the bottom floors the spiral stairs kicked my motion sickness in each time I went up or down 🙈😂. The apar**ents are central to everything in a great location I will absolutely be looking to book again the next time I am staying in Edinburgh. Thank you so much Xx

Great location but no internet despite 2 sources & the cable/TV didn't work. I thought someone may have just switched a setting, but when that didn't work, I discovered the cable from the wall was not connected to the TV. See the picture because it wasn't just a matter of screwing it back in & unlike a standard hotel, U can't contact anyone. I will be seeking a resolution from *********** and/or the provider. Especially since I feel I was mislead by *********** into thinking I was booking a hotel. I travel frequently & this was my worst experience...

We loved this quaint, central apar**ent. We spent two nights here as a family of four (kids 5 and 7). The location was superb! Kids loved the spiral staircase and playing house. Exactly what we needed for our short stay in Edinburgh. Would stay again!

Arrived late at night on a cold and rainy July , not realising that we would have to climb up a very dangerous spiral stair with no handrail and which was painted and slippery with rain , not easy with big cases!!, we opened the key box to find no key to get in, we tried numerous times to call and text the owner on the emergency number which they ignored , 1am and we were frantically running round hotels to see if they had a room available, absolute disgrace and they didn't even call first thing in the morning , it was nearly 11am when she called, she promised to refund the second night as well if we wanted to stay, I have now waited 6 weeks and still no refund in my account, and been told I will get 1 night refund, the windows have no curtains and came out of the shower to find the neighbours looking over into the bathroom , I have re-studied the booking page and it does not mention the stairs and the fact there is no banister to hold onto , this should be much better explained as I would NEVER have booked had I realised, since my partner has very bad knees. The lack of communication with the owner is an utter disgrace and they just don't care, I spent £1200 on this property and it wasn't worth £200, they didn't compensate for ruining my son's graduation and still waiting for the one night we couldn't get in the room, biggest mistake ever booking this property

Staying here 23rd June to 26 th of June was a mistake. My friend and I endured 24 hours with no electricity. Not able to shower, charge phones and see after it got dark. It was near impossible to contact the owners. I tried to on the number they had text me on but no reply. I found another number which gave me six options all which led back to contacting the same number which no one responded to. Eventually after pressing 0 by mistake on the options I got through to someone. This person did send out a person to fix it but sadly by then our first morning and night before had already been ruined. In addition there is no where to hang clothes and the bathroom light was in need of a good dusting and only one bulb working. They are also unable to hold you luggage so that was another issue and morning wasted while we sorted that out. Yes it’s in a fabulous location and has a spiral stair case but no where near worth the money. I’ll return to this fabulous city soon and will stay in a decent place next time.

I loved my stay here and have no idea what people are complaining about. If you want a quirky place to stay with a bit of history then this is the place for you. I loved the entrance down a hidden alley and up a spiral staircase. The room was clean, warm and comfortable and the location was fantastic- right on The Royal Mile. The only negative would be the room was lacking somewhere to hang clothes, not a big problem for a couple of nights but would still be useful. The hosts couldn’t have been more helpful, getting back to us on any queries and sorting out an earlier check in to suit our arrival time. I’d definitely come back and really enjoyed my stay.

This extremely disappointing place, not to say risky, was booked with good intentions by a Scottish friend of ours prior to our recent trip to Scotland for the two last nights of the trip. While our visit to a few beautiful Scottish islands and Glasgow's adjacent countryside was wonderful, the two nights at this facility with the peculiar name Royal Mile Balconies by the Castle proved to be sheer hell. Once the booking confirmation from *********** arrived, it was followed by 7! pages of " instructions" ( yes, seven!)from the owners which literally left us stunned. On the first page, there were the unwelcoming statements that the "hotel" has no staff, no reception" and practically nobody to talk to on arrival. Also, no storage place was available prior to check-in at 15:00, meaning that people arriving, say at 10:00 had to lose half a day waiting for the room and stuck with their luggage. And thirdly, the cherry on the "icing" is that there are "very steep steps, with no handrail" leading to our third-floor room. And we didn't get yet to the real part- getting the room key.. on three elaborate pages+photos it has been described how to find door 7A in the courtyard, entry with a code of course. Then through another two sets of codes to get the key, almost like those adult mazes where people try to get out of a room by decyphering certain clues, only this time the other way around. Our saga started at the first door, where it took 10 agonizing minutes till it finally "yielded" and we got in. Then, climbing the 65! spiral stairs to the third floor with two heavy suitcases wasn't something that either I or my wife would like to experience ever again. Slow, agonizing, and downright risky, with no handrail whatsoever. The room itself was very small, with no wardrobe or anything, just open hanging. Sorry, forgot, there was a very small fridge too, that wasn't operating. In order to avoid climbing the damn stairs, we didn't come back the next day to the room until very late. It's a pity because the only good thing about this accommodation is its good location. However, what is the benefit if you must avoid using it?! What really irks me are not even the owners, but rather ***********'s misleading info, or more correctly the lack of anything warning customers that this accommodation is certainly not suitable for elderly people, or any warning whatsoever for the difficult constraints of the facility. It is simply brazen, not to use another word, that the only real info we got from booling.com is that the reservation can't be canceled. I've been traveling extensively for over 50 years and don't recall anything like this. My advice- stay away from *********** and all similar companies and book directly with the facility itself. This way you might save yourself a pretty lousy and expensive experience.

I booked apar**ent 10 on 4th floor, to stay last night 08/04/2022 for my wife and I. Apart from the room being small it was tidy dirty looking and tired. The carpet was torn in various places and didn't fit properly at the wall , the walls were dirty with lots of marks and drips, the windows were dirty with thick grime and mildew on the frames. One window was cracked. The window ledge was dirty. The medicine cabinet for toiletries was dirty and stained. The bathroom wall had chips flaking. The shower tiles had a mildew fungus on the grout. The sink drain was rusty. The stone stairs are not for the fainthearted.

While the room was small it had everything we needed. Located only a stones throw from the castle, the building has so much character. We loved the winding staircase up to the third floor but it may not be suitable for all. This is an old school building so no handrail. The room had a big double bed. It was very comfortable. There was a small table and chairs in the room, plenty of towels for us both and a little mini fridge to keep drinks cool. We stayed for two nights. The shower is a little finicky but there was a sign up explaining how to get the temperature right and it was 100% accurate. There was complimentary tea, coffee and biscuits in the room which was a nice touch. This is a self check in and check out place to stay. Lovely and warm, very clean and LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION. Possibly not for everyone if you like modern hotels but we went for the character and the location. Loved it and would highly recommend.
