Went here for a rare kid free drink and got made to feel terrible. Not sure what they are trying to achieve. We went next door to lady libertine instead and was great atmosphere and experience- much better! So exclusive it’s empty! Keep up the great work!

The Townhouse building is superb. Beautiful architecture. However a couple of things let it down. Arranged to have dinner at 1930 when we checked in. I received a text saying my table was booked for 1730. I had to phone and fight to get my original booking reinstated. Seemingly the restaurant was very busy that night and they thought it was okay to bump us. The dining experience did not go well either. Despite booking at 1930 our main course did not arrive till 2130. If we had not been staying at the hotel we would have walked. Our Châteaubriant arrived and had to be send back however they left us with the vegetables to get cold!! When I arrived home I noticed a charge for £25 on my credit card. There was no explanation about this. I had to phone and I was told it was for me taking a tea caddy from the room. I did not remove this item and wonder if this is just a scam. Perhaps customers miss this extra charge. As you can imagine it took the shine off our 40th wedding anniversary. I did fill in customer feedback and was contacted by Sara. She asked me to reply to her email to see if things had been sorted. I did take the time to reply but have never heard from her since. Disappointing!!

We were refunded one night stay of £450 as was several issues. Took several emails to sort out, agreed to one night refund to put an end to all the emails back and forth. Be sure to ask for a room with some sort of a view of the beautiful grounds as this is not guaranteed. Reserve dinner well in advance as there clearly isnt room for all paying guests to dine. There was no room for us in any of their ten restaurants on our two night stay.

What a stunning building... you can just sit there and look around and up to the Dome in the roof - absolutely breathtaking. Service excellent, nibbles delicious and wine excellent - no quibbles at all. Great for a special occassion you wont regret it.

Very comfortable stay. Everything you could want in an hotel even fresh milk in fridge for Nespresso machine. Bed a little too soft for me but my daughter loved it. Staff very well trained and friendly.one negative. My bill included tip for breakfast staff and general hotel staff. As I’d already tipped breakfast waiter I found this unacceptable. You tip for good service. Not across the hotel staff

I can’t recommend this hotel highly enough. Apart from being perfectly situated for an Edinburgh city break, the level of service was outstanding. The staff couldn’t have been friendlier, more helpful or efficient. Our room was deliciously comfortable and had every convenience imaginable plus some you wouldn’t have imagined (hair straighteners for instance!). Oh, and a drinks trolley set up for cocktails … what’s not to love!

We came here as an anniversary present for my fiancé. It was absolutely fantastic, from the staff, service, room, food, drinks to location. I questioned myself after booking and then looked at the trip advisor reviews...but thankfully I took my own judgement, and given the name of this hotel, we knew we were going to be in safe hands! The food at The Spence was 10/10 from the drinks to the food and the staff were just impeccable. Really hats to everyone - I asked for a particular cocktail we had upstairs in The Lamplighters and because it wasn't served in The Spence the ingredients weren't available but rather than saying no they got the barman to come down and make it for me. Hannah at the Spence was the best server and really nothing was any trouble! Hats off to you! We stayed in the nook room which yes is the smallest but is far from small. It was huge! Had everything and more! A final mention to Irene - she checked us in made sure we had everything we needed and even made our departure 10/10 with a late check out. Irene hats off to you as you definitely made our stay and gave gleneagles the name it has! Will definitely be returning!

I will start with good points first, the food was great and the venue is beautiful. However, the service was not up to the standard you would expect. To use the word service is going too far. There was a severe lack of attention paid to the customer. Lots of staff buzzing about but no one paying any attention kept having to awkwardly catch our servers' attention to top our champagne up, which was just embarrassing. Left felling disappointed.

We really wanted to love this place. So much so we were all set to sign up to become members. But it’s all just a big disappointment. We booked for lunch, but didn’t stay. The tables are so close together that I couldn’t even fit between the tables to get to my seat (I’m a size 10). We felt we would have been having lunch with the stranger at the tables either side - I’ve never been in a restaurant where the tables were so tightly stacked. The restaurant also had a very strong grill/smoke smell - the type where you leave and you smell like a greasy fry! Perhaps that is acceptable at a greasy spoon cafe, but not what you’d expect at a Gleneagles restaurant. We’d also been enquiring around membership over the last few days and had been in contact over email prior to attempting to go for lunch. They shared info on membership but when my husband asked if he could get a tour of the gym in consideration of the membership (the gym really being the biggest attraction of the £2.5k membership), they said that wouldn’t be possible. All just a bit odd, very disappointing and the service was poor, at best!
