매드 멍키 쿠지 비치 호스텔(MAD Monkey Coogee Beach)

As a first time traveller, this hostel is perfect for me. After feeling a bit homesick this hostel and the people here made me feel at home. There is a full on family vibe when you stay here, everyone talkative and easy to become friends with. The staff are always amazing and friendly. I don’t think I could beat this hostel if I tried. Just Perfect!

Best hostel ! Met the most amazing people here, such a good vibe and so friendly. Would 100% recommend to anyone arriving in Australia looking to meet people. Has recently been renovated and looks great ! Photos on here are older - they should update them.

Best hostel, so welcoming and friendly. Staff are lovely and the rooms are clean with a powerpoint and reading light at each bed. Met some great people in the common area and the BEST location right opposite the beach. 100% recommend.

The hostel is cosy and social. It’s not a party hostel, but people do socialise in the kitchen. The beds are the drawback here - they are rickety and every time someone moves in their bed, you can hear the springs. Also my bed moved every time the guy in the top bunk rolled around. I’m 193cm and couldn’t stretch out in the bed. Difficult to sleep. If you value your sleep, find another place.

Didn’t have a good stay at this hostel. Food is consistently stolen from the fridge throughout my stay. The kitchen is very small and a constant mess to the point of not being able to use it. Advertised weekly events simply don’t happen, making it harder to meet people in the hostel who often live full time at the hostel working a job making it less social. I had an entire load of washing thrown into the bin by a member of staff because I didn’t come back to the dryer in time. Staff did offer a small amount of compensation but nothing amounting to the amount of clothes thrown away or food lost.

My first experience at this hostel was fine for a hostel, bit messey, some ***** around but not enough for my concern, I was there for a 7 night stay. My second time staying at this hostel didn't go so well. My first night back after travelling NZ me and my girlfriend were jumped by 4 locals 2 of whom had at least 100kg each on us, they came around the corner asking if we were English followed by me responding I'm irish, we were kicked to the ground severely and beaten (Cracked theeth) at 11 at night, they were on a hunt for backpackers. The next morning at half 9 we asked if we could have a refund for our intended 6 night stay but had to pay for the second night. There was large cockroaches in the common area and kitchen, the fridge is very small for the hostel size and was very crowded, the kitchen is tiny and people don't clean up after them selfs and is often very crowded with just 3 people, management say its out of there control however this doesn't seem to be an issue in other well manged hostels. People like to drink in the common area and leave food, bottles etc. and just leave it to someone else to clean up (morning staff), most of the time we couldn't sit down to have dinner because of this. The rooms are ok but have no plugs for each bed like other hostels and only a small fan for the heat that doesn't do much good. On both occasions the group is very young and immature and seem to all have arrived recently to australia and use it as there first location. When booking I had my invoice including tax but was charged more. Compared to other hostels it's not that clean and is in serious need of a makeover, fresh paint, better friges, updated and extra kitchen and supplies, updated beds (very creaky), plugs and lights for the beds, air conditioning, WiFi in the rooms (only around the reception area) etc. It seems like I'm making it the worst place imaginable however this is basic in other hostels, I stayed in the highst room possibe (4 bed) and appar**ent (4 bed), management don't seem to care as long as the money rolls in hence why they are the no.1 hostel on *********** (sponsor). The reviews are fantastic for this place due to like I said people go there as there first hostel experience. The pictures look fantastic like every other hostel but the reality is much different. I invite all members of management to take weekend trips away and see the competition, there are much nicer and we'll manged hotels at a lower price point it's night and day, I can see it may not be a major issue currently for ye but I can only see it going worse in the long run. If you read other reviews on google they voice my concerns. The one star responses go from bartering them, sinsire, lying (The common room does not close at 1am, they have nicer rooms with more amenities etc.), I feel as though the responses are what you would see a angry 16 year old write,  a ah boo whoo you / angry type of responce, I find it very immature and unprofes

I had a very pleasant 3 days at the hostel. Staff are friendly, everyone was nice, made a good German friend there who was staying in my room. Common room is chill, no ladders on bunk though, literally almost broke my back jumping out of bed aha. There’s a massive fridge for your food, but it’s really packed. They seem to do a few activities in the week. Pancake day was cool, someone makes them all for you, and it’s free! The beech is at your front door, and they have a lot of cheap and nice places to eat! Overall, I would recommend this hostel :)

What an introduction to Australia - this is the place to stay when you land ! Met some of the best people here. Hostel is in a great location, and clean and comfy. Def recommend to anyone that is coming to Sydney !

“Nice hostel, Joke at the reception was very friendly” Je voelt je direct welkom met zo’n goedlachse Joke aan de receptie ! Ze doet het TOP ! Is altijd bereid om iedereen te helpen. Eigenlijk zouden ze continu een Joke aan de receptie moeten zetten. Wereld zou er helemaal anders uit kijken ! 😍
