The Lang House was our home-away-from-home for a quick 3-night getaway as we explored the Burlington/Stowe area for the first time. Since we live in a Queen Anne Victorian, we chose to stay in the carriage house in the Galloway room, to get a different feeling than what we're used to. Our room was cozy, but not cramped, and decorated with warm colors and peaceful accents (I wish I could find the same watercolor bird duvet cover for my bedding!) I loved the reading chair and lamp! Having the tea service set up right outside our door in the entrance hall, along with an afternoon cookie delivery, took it up another notch in my book. Every staff member we interacted with was friendly and welcoming, especially ZuZu, the resident Shih Tzu. Before dinner, and after a day of enjoying our area travels, we'd unwind on the cozy sun porch in the main house with a game of Rummy 500 and a beer from the Lang House selections. Breakfast each morning was abundant, creative and satisfying. The proximity to town made it an easy walk each night for dinner, where we enjoyed some exceptional meals at Leunig's Bistro for fantastic French cuisine, El Cortiijo for casual Mexican and Istanbul Kebab House where we tried Turkish food for the first time. My husband said the lamb kebobs were the most tender and delicious lamb he'd ever had. All the restaurants were suggested to us by our innkeepers and none disappointed. We took the short drive to Colchester to walk the causeway across Lake Champlain. Being a weekday, and fairly chilly, we had that hike all to ourselves. The ride to nearby Stowe was well worth it, and we took the gondola to the top of the mountain to take in the views (We don't ski, but wanted to feel on 'top of the world.') We stayed for a while to enjoy a Bloody Mary in the Cliff House restaurant before making our descent. We visited the downtown Stowe area shops and found a few treasures. Having the Lang House as our home base was perfect! We hope to return again when we can experience Burlington in the warmer months, and take a dinner cruise on Lake Champlain.
