더 그레이트 노던 호텔(The Great Northern Hotel)

Called in for food on Saturday evening, the lady at reception said for us to eat in the bar. We sat at the table for about 20 minutes waiting to be given menus and for our drink order to be taken, we ended up just going to the bar to ask for a menu, which was on a white a4 sheet of paper, for a 4* hotel. We sat for a while waiting for our order to be taken, we should have got up and left at that stage. When our food arrived we still hadn’t got our drinks we’d ordered 20 mins prior so we again had to go to the bar and ask for them, we ordered two cokes, both of which were flat! I ordered the stuffed Turkey and ham, but I was served a plate of roast beef? (Roast beef wasn’t even on the menu) I never said anything because we had waited long enough. When the food arrived it was cold, bland and poorly presented, my partner ordered the burger and it was like something out of the chip van, it was like frozen shop bought, wasn’t good. The menu was basic & didn’t have an option of sides nor dessert. The high chair they provided our 6 month old was broken, so we had to swap it. The hotel itself was absolutely freezing inside. In the ladies toilets the two bottles of dove soap had no soap in them and were filled with water, a 4* hotel lacking basic items. This hotel has went downhill badly, we know to avoid again in the future.

Stayed at the hotel for two nights. Upon arrival hotel looked nice when entering but from there that’s how the good part finished. Room allocated to us needed to be freshened up, paint work was poor, toilet didn’t flush properly, bathroom was dated so much so that we didn’t feel comfortable to use the bath/shower. We had an included evening meal on the first night. The starter was poor, the main courses were inedible so much so we got up and left and explained to the head waiter and his reply was just “ok” He didn’t offer an apology or an alternative to eat. We went to our room furious and hungry. It is obvious that the waiter never reported this to management! This out of all the hotels we have stayed in has to be the worst. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

My husband and children were so disappointed in our stay .location is beautiful,front foyer is lovely and bedroom was spotless but that's where it ends. Service was slow.Food was mediocre. Menu- a piece of paper,Menu choices not what you would expect from a 4 star hotel charging top rates,could be forgiven had the food been delivered in a timely manner and edible. Breakfast was terrible Cold buffet ,( from a hot buffet counter)...Worst of all my girls were violently ill later that day. Need I say more.we will not be returning and as a Hotel Manager myself would I question their abilities in the kitchen department.....

We were keen to check out this hotel over Easter break but we were left disappointed, Room was dated, no lock on the bathroom door, evening food was at best just ok and service was so slow, pool was cold and jacuzzi was not working, never have I visited a 4* hotel and have to pay for a locker in the changing room! Breakfast was hugely disappointing, cold buffet, no fresh orders taken, again would not expect that in a 4* hotel. Only upside to the visit was the hotels location and the comfy lounge area in the main reception area, where we spent most of the time, can not see us returning to the hotel in the future unfortunately and we had high hopes for it as we'd always admired it from afar.

Terrible experience, please don’t waste your money. Rooms are so dated and simply not safe for families. The service overall was one of the worst I’ve ever experienced, our food order on both days was wrong, I asked and stood waiting for a baby chair for 20 minutes with no joy. The breakfast in the morning was cold! The hotel toilets were in no fit state for any young child or person to use, they were not cleaned from the night before. The room itself for the price was terrible, handles on the windows were missing and tops of the taps as well as the wood panelling chipped off. This was a family room and simply wasn’t fit for purpose. We used the pool on the Monday morning to find the facilities were so under whelming and the main pool itself was freezing. We paid over 500 euro for our stay and left very dissatisfied and upset with our overall stay.

Worst hotel iv had the misfortune to stay in,arrived on good friday room was ok beds very uncomfortable,no handle or lock on bathroom door very annoying esp with 2 ppl sharing ,bathroom very dated,the loo didn flush great and had to listen to the water/pipes rattiling for 10mins every time it was flushed,worst was yet to come kids running up n down corridor from early evening screaming shouting to midnight seems parents come to this hotel so thier brats can ruin guests time at hotel,breakfast next morning was chaotic i was put off by the fact the window we sat at had dead spider and cobwebs onthe sill,i got scrambled eggs they were sent back absoloutly rotten had a burnt taste, bread was stale the toasters take forever,so i had a cup of tea for breakfast,saturday evening hotel was packed obviously being easter holidays etc but my goodness hotel management need to have a good talk with themselves i get you cant expect kids to sit still but to allow them to run riot through hotel is just wrong,again they were running up and down the corridor to late on,doors constantly banging into the small hours wth ppl returning to thier rooms got very little sleep.We had booked a 3 night stay but couldn wait to leave a day early being in our 60's we wefe hoping for a lovely relaxing Easter weeknd ! Would never stay here again

Beautiful hotel in lovely location with a golf course. First class staff , food and accommodation. Booked a three night country music midweek break which was excellent value. The entertainment was very good and special thanks to Marion for all her help in organising our stay. Would definitely recommend this hotel and will be going back for sure. Even got my hair done in the hotel salon with Trina who was very pleasant.

We did not have a pleasant stay over the new years. We returned after we spoke with Amanda (Manager). She could not have done enough for us on our return. Our room was massive with 2 bathrooms. Super cosy beds, spotless room. Breakfast was delicious, super friendly staff, Laura waitress in restaurant was a delight. Excellent customer service from all. Loving the new renovation in the reception area, badly needed this. Swimming pool, sauna & steam room all, very clean & working, with fresh towels. All staff from reception, bar staff to cleaning staff so friendly. Glad we returned with our young family. Many Thanks Team look forward in returning summertime..

We had a fantastic time at the Great Northern Hotel during the Bundoran set dancing weekend. The hotel's location is superb, surrounded by the ocean and a golf course. We had a magnificent sea view from our large and very comfortable double room in the top floor. The cooked breakfast was terrific and there were gluten-free options (e.g., bread and cereals). Facilities include a swimming pool, jacuzzi, steam room and sauna. We will definitely be back!
