소머필드 로지(Somerfield Lodge)

We have stayed here on at least three occasions. All the rooms in the lodge appear to have virtually the same layout and sadly the same short comings. The radiator in our room on this visit wasn't on, it was pouring with rain and quite chilly outside. The duvets on the single beds are too narrow they barely stretch over the top of the mattress without anyone laying in the bed. There was no space in the room to place a suitcase. The door catch didn't work, we had to keep the door locked even when we were in the room. The venetian blinds do not keep the morning sunlight out hence we were awake at 5 a.m . Blackout curtains are needed as well as the blinds as the blinds provide essential privacy. The biggest disappoin**ent was the ensuite bathroom which, despite having an electric towel rail, was freezing. The shower curtain was dirty at the bottom and the base of the toilet cistern unit where it sits on the floor needed bleaching. Sound proofing between rooms is extremely poor. On our last visit we heard a very lengthy phone call which took place at 1:30 in the morning. This visit we listened to a bathroom comfort break taken by the guest in an adjoining room in the night. For us it is ideally located for the purpose of our frequent visits to this area but if it was a weekend break and not a commi**ent I doubt if we would chose this accommodation which is disappointing to say as the potential is considerable but at the moment, for us, it is average. A huge positive is the breakfasts. The choice is excellent and it is well cooked. The staff are very pleasant and helpful.

Perfect for the location we needed, pleasant, large and clean rooms. The staff were really friendly and welcoming. Breakfast was included in our stay and included a full English on offer - what more could you want! We can’t wait to stay again. Thanks for a great experience.

Nice rooms with everything you need. The staff are really friendly, helpful and welcoming. They even made me a packed lunch because I had to leave early for work. My evening meal was also very nice

Lovely club house and dining area with great views over the golf course. Staff very friendly and helpful. We had room 2 not a good view from window but room although small was very comfortable. We had car trouble and had to leave early so did not get out and about. Quite a route march to have breakfast especially if weather is bad but would try again earlier in the season

Wasn't quite sure where to go on arrival, but soon found reception in the next building. There isn't a lift to the rooms and there aren't any on the ground floor. We were up 1 flight of stairs. There were 3 of us with 3 rooms, all with 2 singles and all slightly different sizes but a decent size. Room 1 has a bath with shower, which we had requested. There's tea and coffee making, biscuits and hair/soap/body wash. The lights didn't all work but at least 1 lamp did. A nice touch is there's a fan (which I needed), heater and blanket in each room and a hairdryer. Breakfast was lovely - in the golf clubhouse next door. There's a bar there too. We'd definitely stay again if we were in the area.

The price was good. Apart from lack of muesli and plain yoghurt the breakfast was good. Checking in was very unsatisfactory as noone seemed to k ow where I should go. I ended up having to phone.

Room was not as expected floor covered in grit and grass and biscuit wrapper beside bed overall nog a great stay
