Hawthorn Extended Stay by Wyndham Bloomington

The elevator and hall to our room smelled like ****. In our room the floor was sticky. There were no rages or soap to hand wash dishes or even soap for the dishwasher. The fridge door stuck. The AC and Heat vent was covered in mold. We made sure not to use it at all. The curtains were falling down. The room was big and roomy but the space was not used properly, and no pictures on the walls. The walls were just bland. The bathroom light was very dull, and the lotion dispenser had clearly fallen off the wall and never patched so a hole in the wall. We checked out early and left.

We chose this property based on its closeness to the Special Olympics competition at ISU. For $100/night, I expected better. The room floors looked clean but were definitely not mopped as our feet were black when walking around. We asked for extra blankets because we had a child sleeping on the pull out couch, we were told there was only one blanket available. We took the kids to the pool and there were no clean towels. I went to the front desk to alert the staff that there were no towels and without speaking, she handed me 4. Luckily, that is all I needed. The hotel is right off of the highway so road noise was pretty heightened. It would be nice if there was a sound machine or something to try and help offset that. The air vent in the bathroom was FILTHY and there was little to no water pressure in the shower. The room had a whole kitchenette set up filled with empty cabinets. I would definitely not stay more than one day and don't plan on going back.

Went in before check in and asked if we could check in early and was told no. No big deal, asked if we could use the pool prior to check in and was also told no, you must be checked in to use it. The room was okay. When we checked in later in the evening the front desk clerk was fantastic and very polite.

Overall the stay was good. I didn't have any issues with cleanliness. I did have an issue with checking in. When I arrived to check in the front desk receptionist TOLD me that because the reservation was in my name and I had a local ID I was required to put down a $100 cash deposit as well as a CC on file even though I had paid for my stay in full over a month in advance. Due to not being told anything about this before hand I had to leave the hotel and go to a store nearby to get cash because I don't just walk around with cash on hand. Then when I returned with the cash deposit and began signing the paperwork to check in, I noticed that the reservation didn't have my name on it, but one of my family members name, when I asked the receptionist about it, she then back tracked and said the reservation actually wasn't in my name but was indeed in theirs and because they were from out of town and didn't have a local ID, we didn't need to put down any cash deposit. Due to this we ended up wasting an hour between trying to check in the first time, having to go get cash, and coming back only to be discover we didn't need the cash deposit. It was extremely inconvenient as I am 8 months pregnant and had to do unnecessary traveling. Then when we got to the room, although everything looked to be in order, the phone wasn't working. When we told the receptionist they said someone would be up to look at it and no one was ever sent.

It was great the rooms are comfortable and roomy. Breakfast was ok not great but this is our place to stay in Bloomington Normal.

It was a hassle checking in. Rooms were not very clean. I was referred there by my cousin who lives in Bloomington. As a hotel manager I would never want a guest to walk into a room with a dirty bed and garbage still in the room.

Ipaid for my room online, so the added $100 upfront "Cash Only" deposit upon arrival for townies was definitely unexpected, and the King size beds being on the 1st floor blew me since Icould hear the people above walking around the entire time. Not totally bad, but to say the less Iwont be coming back.

I love this hotel every time I stay in Bloomington I stay here. Room was nice bathroom needs some paint touches up but this is by far one of my favorite hotels. The only thing that was a little disappointing was the game room was closed

The room was very clean but did have a weird smell when we initially walked in. Other than that the stay was great
