Ideal location for seeing Bakewell. Nice atmosphere, shame they stop serving food at 6pm.

The wife and I met up with some friends here and we had a great afternoon. The pub is fantastic, the staff were great. It really is a good pub. It has a lovely size beer garden in a fantastic location too. We never tried the food but the menu looked great.

We ate after a 5 mile walk, in the garden it was lovely, very busy so we did have to wait for food but it was worth the wait. We all had different meals and every one was very happy with their choices. I went for the Salmon Salad and it was so tasty and worth the price.

Arrived and greeted the redhead teen with a tattoo on the back of his hand. Don’t know his name - to be frank I doubt he’s have given it. It all my 54 years have I never met anyone so rude and openly hostile to a customer walking into a pub. Full of surly attitude, he grumbled “You’ve got 5 minutes” When questioned as to what he meant - (was this some new greeting?) He grunted “to order” sadly the art of communication is dead, at least here. I ordered a pint of neck oil. Without a word he poured the pint, then grunted £7….. £7 for a single pint of neck oil. Were it not for the fact I was with the missus and didn’t want to create a scene, I’d have told him to shove his pint of neck oil and crap attitude and left. Disgustingly poor customer service and exorbitent prices. We came a couple of years ago and enjoyed the food and drink and it was hospitable. Not sure if it changed hands since then, but I’m never giving them a penny of my money ever again. If you’re still reading this I suggest you do the same. Awful pub awful atmosphere, a total rip off and the staff must have had to try to be this rude. If I could give 0 stars I would. If the manager reads this, you know what to do. If he worked for me I’d have sacked him in a heartbeat. Ironically we were intending to bring some friends there for lunch the following day. They will be getting told the same, and my thoughts will go in the guestbook where we’re staying. Shocking drop in standards since our last visit. Very, very, VERY poor.

Came here for a drink (aperols were lovely and a great price!) However asked the staff when the food was served until and we were told 8.30, we tried to order before 8pm and were told last orders were already called on a Sat evening! Very disappointed as were sat for ages before we ordered and weren’t told last orders had already been told. Very disappointed.

I was staying in the area for work and decided to have lunch before going home. Solo-dining, especially for women, can be daunting. I picked the Red Lion because it's quite large and has little nooks to hide in and dine fairly inconspicuously. This attempt was, sadly, ruined by the bar member (short grey hair, glasses, over 50), who decided to make an example of my solo-dining. As I ordered my food at the bar, she asked me if there was any other food for the table. I said no. She asked again, slowly, if that meant that there was no other food being ordered for the table: I confirmed that this was the case. She then said loudly, in a high pitched voice "Aww, just you by yourself then"? This felt patronising and insulting and I wish I had left then and there. Sadly I continued with the order of steak sandwich (rare), which turned out to be more of a lettuce and mustard sandwich with some overcooked and tough pieces of beef thrown in as an afterthought. The "bloomer" bread was standard white bread which was a little stale and the fries had been cooked a significant amount of time before serving, and had clearly been reheated. They were dry and I left most of them. Overall, an unpleasant experience marred by bad food, average beer and terrible service.
