We’ve spent 2 nights at peak season and we ve thought to find 5 stars service and we’ve found 5 buckets about side our doors full of water and humidity…. Service was basically boring and low standard. Food good but not way to have a bill of 2.000euro to stay like favellas…

This is a double review, we first went June 22 and so enjoyed it we returned June 23, so here goes! First visit was of note due to a very small error that held us from checking in for 30 minutes, reception staff came to apologise then all was sorted. However, not the end of the story, we had a nock on the door and the person concerned apologies in person, I said "hey, small mistake and thanks for the honesty and courtesy" OK we thought. Another nock on the door, this time the guest relations manager, could not have been more kind, bringing with him a trolley of ice and champagne on the house and a small gateaux for my wife's birthday!! Wow how professional. Always a cliche, but it's how you resolve an issue, however small, that shows professionalism. Top marks! Many thanks to all the staff. So we return in June this year, utterly flawless and although we never mentioned it, they remembered my wife's birthday from 2022 with many greeting and another cake, very touching. The restaurant (3*) Stunning on both occasions. The service, sommelier and front of house, coordination are flawless, a lesson to anyone that wants to experience perfect service, attentive, but not over the top, even the look of the staff and restaurant style are perfect. You only needed to look up and someone one is with you. Food. OK I am a really good home chef and know what I'm doing, BUT, the dishes here blew us a way. Fantastic achievement, inventive , interesting. Sauces in particular were divine. We had one comment though, the portions are generous for Michelin standard, the first time we had the large discovery menu, but on our return had the À la carte, that suited us better, there is a smaller set menu as well. Don't take this as criticism, it's just a generous menu. 2 Staff in the hotel and 2 in the restaurant recognised us from a June 22, a very warm greeting. On leaving, someone came out to give us bottled water as we left. Utter class. So overall, warm, unpretentious and laid back venue. We will be back in 24! We only spend one night and weren’t very lucky with the weather - so we did not have the chance to explore the beautiful nature surrounding the hotel. So I can not comment on that, but the hotel itself is very comfortable and quite luxurious - all that in a very cozy traditional yet modern Black Forest-style. We loved the spa area with the great pool, the well appointed gym and the overall look of everything. The staff too is friendly and competent. I wasn’t so fond of our room, which was a standard, because it was very long and narrow, making it a bit dark and difficult to navigate with two people and luggage. It felt cramped. Next time we will go for a better category for sure. I was also a little bit annoyed when we arrived at breakfast and had to wait for quite some time to be seated, especially because we were send to tables that were already occupied by a waitress at first. The breakfast though is one of the best I ever had. All the traditional German fare is of a much higher quality then usual. The liver sausage for example was incredible. Just a joy. We also liked the other guests and had some very good conversations. Check out can get busy and while it is overall quite fast I did not like to be in such a crowd of guests (the pandemic isn’t over yet). Again the staff though is doing their best to do everything fast. There is a concierge from Thuringia who I enjoyed chatting with while waiting for my car to be loaded up and ready to go. So many nice people! My conclusion - overall a very nice place to stay. The Traube Tonbach is well worth the visit.

Two night stay. Excellent visit. The staff were super friendly and helpful. Good sized room with a big balcony overlooking the forest and valley. Very well maintained. The food was good. Expansive pools and extensive hiking trails. Has a fun cooking class.

A historic hotel more than 200 years old. Lovely surroundings and well appointed rooms. A lovely breakfast spread as well. The only negative point are the very inadequate pillows. Ideal for a weekend getaway if you want a tranquil place to idle away. Do not miss trying the 3 restaurants run by the hotel, especially the casual one serving local fare.

We spent two nights at the Hotel Traube Tonbach for a family birthday party. The hotel itself is set in the beautiful scenery of the Black Forest and we were able to take a lovely week in the hills above the Hotel on the day that we had there. The reception at the hotel was fantastic with helpful and friendly staff. The food at breakfast, lunch and dinner was exceptionally good with plenty of variety and everything very tasty. On the second night we went and had dinner at the restaurant opposite the main hotel building and had a taster menu which was stunning. We also got to spend some time in the spa/gym facilities which were superb. Beautifully kept and with loads of facilities and well-sized swimming pools. The hotel is expensive though for what you get; the facilities, the service, the quality of food - it is still good value.

The hotel is situated in lovely settings, the rooms are (near) perfection, the service is very friendly and adequate, walks are being organised, and also bike tours, gym, aqua gym .... and, last but not least, you can choose from a wide variety of food, in the morning as well as in the evening !!!

This was suppposed to be a nice family dinner but it turned out to be a dreadful experience. The dinner started very nicely with a very friendly waiter who was attentive and very helpful. After our main meals were served, the waiter disappeared and it took hours to order and receive our desserts and the check. We could have left without paying as the staff present just waived us goodbye! We ordered the piece of beef for 2 and that was a rip-off! There was no way we received 650g. If you really want to go there, just stick to the local specials and arrive at 6pm, hoping that there will still be a waiter when you’re done. Please note that parking is extremely difficult especially when valet parking is not indicated.

We first stayed here in 2019 for a flying visit to dine at Schwarzwaldstube and enjoyed the hotel so much that we decided to return for a longer stay, but unfortunately - as with everything else - covid got in the way, so we were excited to finally return in 2022... This is a luxury hotel for travelers who are tired of the Four Seasons formulaic style, and boutique hotels trying to keep up with the latest and greatest fads, this is simply good old comfort in a hotel that doesn't care less about being the most fashionable. The rooms are classic, and whilst most of them have a timeless (or dated if one were to be unkind) look, they are extremely comfortable and the housekeeping ensures that they are maintained in good shape. For me, this is not really a property which you stay at to lock yourself away in the pure luxury of your accommodation, it is somewhere to enjoy the facilities and surroundings. The Black Forest is a stunning area of natural beauty and if you have the time, must be explored. There are plenty of pleasant walks and bike rides with Iris, the sports director, providing plenty of thoughtful recommendations. The hotel offers a selection of complimentary e-bikes to explore the area and thoughtfully also offer the use of a GPS unit pre-programmed with a whole selection of routes. Cycling through the forest with the sun shining through the trees is true luxury. The swimming pools and sauna area is also another must, whether it's enjoying a coffee and very good quality cake whilst taking in the view, or using one of their many saunas; again it's somewhere to spend lots of enjoyable time. One of the greatest things about this property is the exceptionally high quality of its F&B offering. All of its restaurants offer high-quality cuisine served with warmth and kindness. The Silberberg is the classic restaurant that is included in the half board option, and whilst the food is good, old school table d'hote (as well as optional a la carte) fare, it is tasty and very enjoyable. Sure some guests may find it dated with every guest sitting at the same table for breakfast and dinner for the duration of their stay, but that is also part of the charm. It reminds me of a German Villa d'Este, although the facilities and food is far better here. The breakfast and complimentary lunch buffet is fabulous too with such a wide array of high qualitiy produce and the service is amazing as well. Allan deserves a special mention for making us feel like a guest who has been staying there their entire life, even though this was only our second stay! There are of course other restaurants to try, not least their 3* Michelin flagship, Schwarzwaldstube. Sadly our meal here was rather lacklustre this time around (see separate review), which was especially disappointing given how wonderful it had been during our last visit.
