손더 앳 이스트 피프스(Sonder at East 5th)

Having lived in Austin when the east side was a place you didn’t visit let alone stay, I have to say how amazed I am at how built up everything is! This place is in a great location within walking distance to downtown. Good food/bars in the area. Pros: Super clean, comfy, and affordable. Can barely hear neighbors/people upstairs. Generally quiet. Great amenities! Cons: New build means lots of odd noises from the building itself. Some knocking noises in the wall of the primary bedroom overnight. Seemed like the building settling basically. The listing says there is a supply closet for things that run out. However, during our stay, there was only a small wooden side cabinet filled with extra towels (pictured). We had to buy toilet paper late one night and the laundry pod supplied was used by the other couple as they left a day before us and we had no access to another one until the next morning according to customer service. There is housekeeping during the day who you can ask for extra supplies but anything after hours must be purchased on your own accord. I only mention this if you, like me, plan to book this based on every convenience listed. Overall it was a good experience and I’ll definitely use Sonder again for other trips. Having your own apar**ent space beats a hotel for some trips.

Unfortunately I am having to re-write this review. My review on Google Maps has been deleted. It was honest but obviously did not align with the reviews the property wanted. People want honest reviews, and subsequently properties should own the constructive criticism to improve. Deleting reviews is a sign that they're being deceitful. That said, after my stay; this is not unexpected. On first arrival, the property seemed great. Great location. Slightly difficult to enter (but easy once this is known). The rooms are a great size. The property gets its single star rating on two major flaws. 1. Noise There was so much noise coming from the ventilation shafts at night, that it was impossible to sleep. I stayed at a property on the busiest train line in Tokyo with a train passing every 30 seconds, but even in that difficult property the noise insulation at least allowed me to sleep. Not so in Sonder. 2. How the property dealt with the problem Firstly the property app is terrible. Communication is via an app with staff that feel like they're disconnected both in terms of location and also the fact they show no concern for issues at all. They dismissed the issue, offering solutions that were not really solutions. But to add insult to injury, they said they sent someone to review the noise and confirmed it was not there. This was not possible given the noise was only occurring between the hours of midnight and 7am. If the person that was checking was in the room with me.... the *weird* but just to ensure that they got the idea, I sent through videos that even the cheapest of hotels would have been shocked by. In the end, I had no choice but to leave, book elsewhere and demand a refund for the unstayed nights. ALthough this was done in the end, it was less pleasant and far harder than pulling teeth. Read my review on Sentral 1614. It's a complete contrast and shows what the complete reverse of this property is like.

We’ve booked a Sonder stay in manhattan later this month and unexpectedly needed a one night stay in Austin earlie so chose another Sonder property. Best decision we’ve made in a while. None of the guesswork of an Airbnb and all nicely appointed. Essentially a nice one bedroom apar**ent with full kitchen and unexpectedly included use of a pool and gym. Highly recommend.

Sonder in East Austin was great for what my partner and I needed! The apt did not exactly match the pictures of the unit we thought we’d get, but it was more than enough for our long weekend trip. The washer/dryer was nice. The bathroom was roomy. The kitchen was a little light on supplies, but we didn’t end up needing much. Opportunities for improvements: the only mirror was in the bathroom, and a tv in the bedroom would have been great. East Austin is a perfect location to stay with easy access to everything we wanted to do. Would definitely stay again.

Location was fantastic, place was very clean and had everything we needed! Place was quiet, easy to check in and out, easy to access the property. All kinds of restaurants and bars nearby and a short walk to the downtown 6th street area. Highly recommend!

The apar**ent we had at Sonder was amazing. It was beautiful, close to everything we needed and easy to find! We loved having access to a washing machine and dryer. It made things very easy for us with our toddler. Large storage closet in the bathroom for our luggage, keeping it out of the way. Highly recommend.

One of the best “hotels” I ever stayed at. Can’t say enough good things. It does have only a chrome cast tv so was worthless and little hard to find but roomy, comfy, and has all the extras you don’t expect in a hotel. And location is perfect.

Loved our apar**ent at Sonder! The bed was very comfortable. The access was easy. Location was great. I just wished the apar**ent had a few more kitchen items like a filtered water pitcher or spices or a few things to make staying there for more days a little easier! Also the water pressure was a little light in the shower. But I loved the space itself and the location!

Great spot in East Austin with easy access to restaurants, groceries, downtown and just a 12 minute drive to the airport. Room was nice and spacious and had everything we could possibly need. Sonder support responded quickly whenever we had questions. It's our first time staying in a Sonder. We're looking forward to seeking out more of them.
