The Lakeside at Nuwarawewa

We only stayed for one night during our tour of Sri Lanka but the hotel was in the perfect location, close to historical sites but also lovely and quiet. Clean pool, clean room and great shower. Food and service excellent with a good good variety of cuisines and enjoyed the sandwiches for lunch as well as the traditional sri lankan curry and rice dishes in the evening. Prices great and staff very friendly and welcoming

All staff ( Recepton, Food servers etc.) were Friendly & helpful. Room was Clean & comfortable. Food was of good quality & taste. Breakfast had two options, local / western breakfast. Both options had fruits, juice, tea/ coffee. Dinner was a-la-cart & had a few options to select from. The Soup & Dessert were the highlights , while the main course too was good. Although located in the city, the hotel is quiet & peaceful. There is an ancient lake nearby where one can go for walks. Overall the stay was very pleasant.

We have stayed at Lakeside many times in the past, from the time it used to be known as the Nuwarawewa Rest House. This is a beautiful place, very centrally located to all the historic sites in Anuradhapura. We stayed only one night, had a lunch and a dinner. The service at the hotel was excellent. Meals were fresh and delicious. Service was by Manoj who was friendly and professional. I have to make special mention of the honesty of staff. I have left behind my wallet with money, cards and US drivers license. This was found by room boy Lasantha and was handed over to the front office. Thilini from front office called me during our trip back to Colombo and made arrangements to deliver this herself. This is outstanding customer service by the staff at Lakeside, proving they are this hotel’s most valuable asset. The occupancy was low during our stay as we observed, and I feel some good marketing and promotional programs could help this place immensely. Thank you and we will visit again.

A lovely hotel with polite and professional staff. Rooms are spacious and beautifully clean. Small balconies and good air conditioning. Shower was hot and good water pressure. Evening meal options were excellent, varied menu, freshly cooked and good portions. Advised to pre order which was ideal. Perfect breakfast. Plenty of choice for Sri Lankan and western taste. Fresh baked cakes and biscuits. Most of the buffet was regularly refreshed (slight disappointment that fresh fruit appeared to run out just after 8am). Great options on egg station. Grounds need a bit of an update. Communal areas very nice. Fair price in bar and for dinner menu. Staff very helpful and will refill water bottles on request.

It was a wonderful experience. The staff was very friendly and very professional, from the security guards to the waiters. Well sanitised and very clean. 10/10 would recommend. Been loyal guests since 2014.

On 17th December 2022 about 1400 hours, I was riding a bicycle, my clothes were wet after riding many km/s, so I came to the lake entrance at the back side of the hotel. The gate was locked. 2 or 3 people came, not to welcome the guest but to open the gate. They asked a number of questions before opening the gate. I was sweating, and asked for a refreshing face towel once I came to the hotel lobby, but they didn't give me. I was satisfied with the wash room facial tissues. The meal menu was nicely presented, it took time to read and select a meal or a drink. Once I chose some items  were not available, eg. Lake fish was not available at the lakefront hotel. Not only food but also beverages including fresh fruit juice  and foreign liquor. The waiter who served my table was not trained enough. He did not first serve the ladies first sitting at the table. Not professional at all.  [ I invited a couple of my friends to meet me at the hotel lobby ]I observed ongoing poor standards at Nuwara Wewa Rest House, the oldest 4 star hotel at Anuradhapura.  As this is my 4th or 5th visit, I still love the hotel atmosphere but not the hospitality they offered to me.
