This hotel is poor and needs a complete overhaul. On the plus side the staff were lovely and accommodating.
On our first night the room we had was cramped and airless & made me think of a prison cell. Very difficult to sleep in. The bathroom was dated and in need of a revamp. The shower head holder didn’t work and it was just generally really awful. Signs of wear and tear everywhere & noisy.
We asked to move rooms but the hotel was full. We did get a better room on the second night but it too was far from perfect.
The reception area is not very welcoming and the breakfast room cramped. I was pleased not to have ordered breakfast.
We left it late booking and choices were limited but for a hotel owned by a multinational conglomerate that includes the Savoy in London and Raffles hotel, money is no object and it is not unreasonable to expect better standards, even if this is their budget chain of hotels.
Its redeeming features are its location and friendly and helpful reception staff.
I would not recommend this hotel unless you are desperate and I will never stay in a Mercure hotel again.
