The Hoxton, Amsterdam Lloyd

My stay was lovely, quiet hotel. Very stylish rooms. Quite dusty in parts of the room and dirty glasses but overall very clean and would recommend. Not far from city centre at all.

Avoid at all costs!!! I booked through my Amex and got tricked into booking a terrible location. There are 2 Hoxtons in Amsterdam and this one has the word “Lloyd” added to it. Anyone that says this location is good is 100 percent lying. Also it’s a waste of your Amex benefits because you are supposed to receive a free upgrade. There is no upgrade when you are staying in a renovated prison. I tried to use my Amex credit for food and I was told the kitchen closed at 9:45 even though it said 10. I was specifically asked how often I wanted my room cleaned and my requests were not accommodated. I’m starving trying to sleep because I can’t get food here and it’s too far to go anywhere else to get food .

My partner and I spent three nights at The Hoxton, Lloyd Amsterdam in mid July and had a fantastic stay. The moment we stepped into the lobby, we were wowed by the gorgeous Art Deco interior. The design gives the hotel a classy 1920s vibe while still feeling fresh and modern. Every detail – from the stained-glass accents to the elegant furnishings – made it feel like we’d stepped back in time to a more glamorous era, without sacrificing comfort. Location & Accessibility: The location is amazing, right next to the water in a quiet, scenic part of the city. We loved being by the waterfront; it’s a peaceful setting to come back to after a day of sightseeing. Despite being slightly away from the busy center, the hotel is very well-connected. The tram stop is a few minutes’ walk away, and it’s only about 3 tram stops to Amsterdam Centraal Station – we were in the heart of the city in no time! There are also easy tram connections to other central spots (we even took one straight toward the museum district). This convenience made exploring Amsterdam super easy, yet we enjoyed the calmer, local neighborhood vibes around the hotel in the evenings. Room & Cleanliness: We stayed in a 5th-floor room, and it was impeccably clean and comfortable. I have to give full credit to the housekeeping team – everything was spotless each day, and the room felt fresh and well-maintained throughout our stay. The décor in the room continued the stylish Art Deco theme with modern touches, which we really appreciated. The bed was very cozy, and we slept great. Despite being in a lively hotel, our room was quiet at night. We also had a nice view (partially overlooking the water), which was a bonus. The only minor issue with the room was the mini-fridge – it was quite small. We had hoped to chill a few drinks and snacks, but the fridge barely fit anything. It wasn’t a huge problem, more of a slight inconvenience, but worth noting if you like to store a lot of refreshments. Dining & Amenities: The lobby and the hotel’s restaurant are both stylish and inviting. The lobby has a trendy, social atmosphere, a great spot to relax with a coffee or a cocktail. We had cofee and one lunch at the on-site restaurant. The food was delicious and nicely presented, and the menu had a good variety. The only downside is that prices are on the higher side (as is often the case with hotel restaurants). There are also local cafes and eateries in the area, but we were happy to have a meal at the hotel before the trip back home. Service throughout the hotel was friendly and professional – the staff at reception and in the restaurant were welcoming and helpful, offering tips for getting around and making us feel at home. Overall: We loved our stay at The Hoxton, Lloyd Amsterdam and would highly recommend it, especially for couples or anyone who appreciates historic charm with modern luxury. The Hoxton Lloyd is housed in a magnificent old building with a fascinating history. However its rooms are old fashioned and ours lacked air conditioning. It was very warm, stuffy and airless with no way to alleviate this. The window only could be opened a small crack. The hotel has stopped enabling a la carte ordering and so subjects guests to a 'full breakfast' charge even for the lightest of meals.

Everything was good up until we left. They did not process a refund deposit and I had to email them to get it back 2 weeks after my trip. Seems fishy to me for such a credited brand. The front desk said there was a “technical error” in the system which is why my hold was not automatically refunded…

The staff was great - both restaurant and housekeeping staff. The restaurant food was delicious as well, both breakfast and dinner. It's fairly close to a transit station, so that's very nice and makes the location walkable via transit. For the bad: the AMEX Gold perks were not fulfilled - "early" check-in wasn't available, even though we arrived at 3pm. To me, this appears a symptom of offering early check-ins, and late check-outs to most guests. Something has to give in this scenario, execution should be fixed. No AMEX complimentary upgrade offered, even though rooms were available throughout our stay on later days (checked available rooms online). The insulation in our room specifically was terrible. The artsy design of the place lead to one hotel room being placed directly above another, like a loft. We had the bottom room and let me tell you, we could hear every footstep by the people above us. It's not the hotels fault these guests were randomly pacing at 5am, moving chairs/desk around past midnight, and other things, but the insulation seemed paper thin. If you do get a room like this, definitely avoid it or ask for a change. We couldn't get any sleep the first two nights these people above us were active. We also requested a taxi service to use one of the hotels services, as told "to arrive in 10 minutes", but 25 minutes later and we were in the lobby waiting. It was too late to order an Uber by then and the desk agents were swamped with more check-ins. We missed our boat tour, but rescheduled and took an Uber instead.
