We decided to visit Almagro after I learned of the historic theatre in town (built in 1628!) and that we could obtain tickets to see a production of "La Celestina" there, and also that Almagro houses Spain's National Theatre Museum! I booked Retiro del Teatro because it looked nice online and also because I was able to request a suite so that my daughter could sleep in a separate area from me and avoid my snoring. This turned out to be a great choice! We loved: The suite was just as beautiful in person as online. It was spotlessly clean, and it had everything we needed for our stay. The innkeepers were kind and patient with my poor Spanish, and incredibly helpful! Ground coffee, tea bags, sugar, and bottled water were provided, so we enjoyed coffee & tea made in the suite's little kitchenette. (The kitchenette was absolutely adorable, and included a stovetop, mini-fridge, microwave, coffee maker, and utensils.) Helena gave us a map and information on hours, etc., for all the local sites, and also recommended restaurants. When I mentioned that I needed to do some laundry, she showed me how the machines functioned. (Somehow, I forgot to make a note of the hours that the laundry room was open, but I still was able to complete a load during our time there.) Almagro itself is a lovely and compact town, so it's easy to get around on foot. Our train didn't leave until mid-afternoon, but the Retiro was able to hold our luggage for a few hours after checkout while we enjoyed lunch and the ambiance of the Plaza Mayor. All in all, the Retiro was just beautifully decorated, not only in our suite, but in the lobby/hallway area, too! Other comments: The suite I'd chosen didn't have a regular window, but it did have a large skylight, which was nice and added enough natural light. The loft area (decorated with a painted tree) would be any child's dream! It was so cute! I also loved the ceiling up there, but the downstairs was just as nice -- especially the kitchenette and the high-backed chairs. I should have checked my emails more often in the days leading up to our stay, as Helena had sent me email with helpful information for our stay, and also an opportunity to do an online check-in. But I did not remember to check my email until we were on the train on our way to Almagro! It would have been better if I had checked earlier and been able to let the innkeepers know our arrival details ahead of time. We felt very much "at home" in our suite at Retiro del Teatro. Our stay was quite comfortable, and I only wish we could have stayed another night.
